It is very rough, but the idea is that the Steam ZK application will be a fullscreen isolated environment like most popular RTS games such as Supreme Commander and Red Alert where they are started and take you to the main menu.

Download the PDF here, it is interactive, and the notes will only work offline in Adobe Reader:

or
http://www.mediafire.com/download/4ftfh5y7bk2dk5o/ZERO-K_MOCKUP.zip

It was created in LibreOffice Impress, and the notes were added in Adobe Acrobat.

The purpose of this mockup is to present an example of a steam-user-friendly way to present ZK, partially by limiting options and partially by imitating the click-and-play turn-key experience of popular RTS games.

Ah splendid work indeed!
However it still lacks some hyperlinks (such for replays etc).
There is not chat anywhere.
I dont see how would promoting twich channels help anywhere.
I dont see anywhere "give me coins i give you kudos!" device for "helping pay for Zero - K server"! That would be a cool side of the mockup.
Gameplay option should go over settings (this can actually confuse people somehow)
What is "tutorial campaign"?
Separating sandbox is a very good idea! I am adding this to my secret list right now.
"Submit error report" in campaign menu is most lulzy indeed.
Skirmish menu is much better than what we have right now
Quickmatch page is WAAAAY to complex. Even i am getting lost there :|

All in all but i expected more mocking. That kinda disapoints.

@[meh] "Quickmatch page is WAAAAY to complex. Even i am getting lost there :|"

I couldn't animate it to display the simplicity, so i tried to imply the passage of time that happened. It is very simple, many of the details are never seen by the player.

-its not less complicated than the existing lobby
-the battle room display is still full of rooms newbies have no idea about
-it hides people. people are a good thing

@klon
"-its not less complicated than the existing lobby"
It's not about actual complication, it's about visual complication. Does it look complicated at first glance? No, because you cant see anything but a few menu buttons at first glance, and i kept it that way through the whole thing.
Please explain your concern in more detail so i can redesign it.

"-the battle room display is still full of rooms newbies have no idea about"
that's because i took a screenshot rather than building what i actually had in mind. I wanted to get this out today as i said i would. Tomorrow I will have a better, more complete, more interactive version.

"-it hides people. people are a good thing"
What should I do about that?
Please make a suggestion!

my suggestion would be to either to create a very slim application that works with the existing lobby or to not make a new one at all and to just improve the lobby. the goal should be to have people eventually use the lobby because it offers the most options and a place where they can interact with people. also the lobby already exists, and noone has to write from scratch :)

getting into a game quickly is imo only relevant when they want to try the game out, for the first few launches maybe - later they will want to use the lobby. a steam launcher shouldnt replace the lobby.

lobby cleanup/improvement measures could be:

- add the quickstart options to the singleplayer/multiplayer tab

- seperate tutorials and other single player missions, such that you can quickstart the tutorial, or quickstart a misson.

- improve visibilty of tabs that lead people to actual games

- launcher or welcome screen directly link to those tabs or quickstart options

- filter/menu for rooms would be useful so newbies dont get all those test hosts and other weird stuff thrown in their faces, that will reduce confusion to some extent.
