Today I was playing Zero-K, than i switched to another program while gaming.
Some seconds later there was a "console" with some graphs and very much other strange things, like "spectator" mode.

I think your game is good, but now i am not thinking more like this way...
So my idea is a noob mode, without this shit like console and spectator mode.

My guess? While alt-tabbing out you hit alt-b and entered debug/profiling mode. That isn't the solution you are asking for, but at least if it happens again you know how to close it.

Yeah, I'm betting somebody got trapped by the alt-tab bug.

Zero-K has a nasty problem where you hit alt-tab and the alt-key gets "stuck". This leads to all kinds of hilarious and terrible problems where normal keypresses get you stuck in terrible camera modes, terrible debug modes, etc.

All spring games behaves like that for me Pxtl. But I just have to press alt once after I return to the game and its back to normal.

I know, I was just trying to explain it in a way the newbie would understand. Either way, considering how much horrifying stuff is bound to the alt key that can be difficult to escape once you're trapped there, being suddenly stuck debugging and FPSing and whatnot can be pretty crippling when the game is starting and players are pushing out initial builds and you have no idea how to turn this mess off.

We could unbind debug mode but do players find it useful? I find it useful because people keep messing with hitboxes.

I'd like to see CTRL and ALT being used for unit selection commands and unit state toggle by default respectively. Using F-keys for special things like debug mode instead seems best, chances are super low they are pressed on accident.

Well, either way the "alt" key bug in Spring engine is a problem. Being unable to issue numerous orders or various other things you'd suffer from with a "stuck" Alt key would be a problem even without the nightmare of bad options you can enable...

But really, all these rarely-used commands belong in menus and removed from the keyboard by default. Hotkeys are shortcuts for frequently-used commands. If a command isn't frequently-used? It doesn't need a key.

Players shouldn't have to even think about hitboxes from a game perspective, right?
Although looking at features and corpses hitspheres can be quite useful sometimes. The unit hitspheres are usually like the model.
Most of the development keybindings could propaby be removed from keybindings. Thoose could be considered a as a legacy from Spring open source history. But whos to decide what keybindings are unneccesary?
How many players will get pissed and confused when the bindings are moved to other keys?

Keymappings are pretty arbitrary if you don't consider spring legacy.

### Not only keybindings are a problem for noobs:

The most stupid thing is that the backspace make the cursor not move anymore.

I would also like it to make the chat easier.

* accept commands even if the prefix "a:" or "s:" is before "!".

* don't split messages between the chat window and the chat bubbles.
* * add a option to display anything in bubbles.
* * make bubbles scrollable.
* * add toggle-keybinding or toggle-buttons to hide ally/normal/game-messages

* Display the !vote-widget at the same position as the unit status widget, but only if no unit is selected.
* * This avoids that the !vote-widget hides behind the chat or the chat behind the widget.

### Suggestion for keybindings:

We need to use some keys to alter others.

Each key which affect other players too ( pause/gamespeed/etc ) should need the same special key ( crtl )

Each key which toggles something ( collisionSpheres/metalmap/EgoPerspective/etc ) should need F#-keys.
* If you toggle something wrong, you only need to play with F#-keys
* I don't understand why we can pause with "Pause" but not make screenshots with "Print" - we could free the F12 button.

Each debug-only stuff ( cpu-window/animationTools ) should need the other Crtl-key ( right crtly ).

Alt/Meta/Space keys can be used to alter things like terraform.

If we make a manual page about this, we don't need any noob-mode.

Example:
Crtl + p : pause/unpause
Crtl + Alt + p : pause only
Crtl + Alt + Shift + p : unpause only
( that would avoid problems with situations when 2 ppls try to unpause )

* accept commands even if the prefix "a:" or "s:" is before "!".

I doubt this will be done. Ally or spectator commands cannot be displayed in the battleroom so if commands could be sent this way it would be impossible to know who sent commands.

The server could repeat the name and message for everyone.

The mod could threaten it as it would be written without that prefix.

And does it shows you who started a command with the private chat of the host?
Somehow admins can do things and you don't know who have done it - even just now.
