How about some 1v1 sea maps for MM?

I wouldn't be opposed, but there are like 2 good sea maps and a ton of garbage ones.

Are there any good sea maps at all?

Including strict sea maps in the matchmaker may be a bad idea. They restrict your factory choice to 3 + air, and the current sea balance more or less makes that 1.

A good mixed 1v1 map where ships would be viable but amph/hover had a chance against them and land factories were at least theoretically usable (aside from drop scenarios) remains unmade to my knowledge, with the much disliked Rapids coming closest.

I'm ok with sea maps that are "just" 3+2 factories. Balance in the current meta shouldn't be the deciding factor, especially not when everyone's playing hovers :p

I'm also OK with just pure sea, as long as it's in moderation (only a few maps)

I haven't used the ship factory in a very long time.

I think a map with these characteristics is always going to be at best very wonky. Taking out the 1v1 requirement makes it achievable, but that's not really the point of this conversation I suppose. I don't think that land factories being usable on a 1v1 sea map is a practical design goal.

If somebody wants to feature a 1v1 sea map I would suggest Cull, Bellicose Islands, or Titan Duel with adjusted water level.

These fail the "good" qualifier by being ugly. I guess i'd consider Flooded Valley.

Coagulation is wonky. Something like Isle of Grief or the tropicals with more water wouldn't have to be wonky.

Finn's is not wonky. Finn's with shallows connecting the islands, fixed shore edge visibility and mexes buildable from shore would probably be okay.

My experience has been Flooded Valley plays better as a 2v2 map. It could be put into that MM pool instead/as well, I suppose.

I don't think any of these maps has the characteristic you stated that ships is viable.

Hence the counterfactual.

a modified finns is a cool idea. if the center pool was connected by shallows as well ships could be very viable, but it might become too porcy for land units with the shallow water slowing everything down. doubly connected side islands would allow for alternative routes and less porcyness, but then its not finns anymore. which might just be a good thing.
