Hello,

While my accout is fairly new, this is not my first experience with TA & co.
I was trying out the new AI skill subdivision, and I noted that the first two skill level
are dumber than a coconut, while medium after 5min of game is already shooting with artillery
from his base towards mine... I dunno if it's me that I'm underestimating a normal AI, or if
that behavior should be reserved for the most skilled AIs.

Good mexing

Thanks for the feedback, this is the only way we'll be able to make some well spaced difficulty levels. With your experience it's encouraging that you beat Beginner and Easy. Beginner is for people new to games and Easy is for those with only a little RTS experience (their tooltips were broken so this wasn't clear). Normal should be the right level for you but it is fairly untested against real players.

The best way to help us out would be for you to send us replays of you playing the AI. The easiest way to do this is to host a cooperative room in the multiplayer lobby and play a game. When the game ends a link to the online replay will appear in the chat and can also be seen on your user page.

I use the replay searcher to watch every game against Circuit Brutal and Insane difficulty each week, so playing against bots online helps us improve them.

My understanding is that Normal is probably the least well tuned difficulty at the moment, so additional data about it is very useful.

I'm also finding a steep jump in strength in the Circuit AI, but at a different place. For me, normal and hard don't expand fast enough and I can beat them more easily than the older medium (?). But brutal lives up to its name.

I've tweaked Hard to be a bit harder based on some feedback that it is too close to Normal. This should reduce the jump from Hard to Brutal.

The slightly harder Hard config is now in the release version. Those of you that find Hard a bit too easy and are stuck on Brutal would do well to re-test Hard. If you're around Normal level please give feedback on the jump from Normal to Hard. This version also includes some general AI fixes to economy management so they are all likely to be a bit harder.

Can we change the name scheme from

Hard, Brutal, Insane

to

Hard, Very Hard, Brutal?

Insane is not an accurate description of Circuit's level of play or style, and the ordering of Insane and Brutal is fairly ambiguous. Also Insane just sounds kinda yucky!

As a side-effect Insane fits perfectly: it will be experimental with latest changes, thus its difficulty may vary.
*IMHO :)

Can we change the name scheme (...) to (...) Very Hard (...)?

Renamed the AI difficulty levels for descriptiveness and because 'Very' is unimaginative.

btw how is "very easy" more unimaginative than "easy"?

One is derived from the other?

I agree that Insane is a bit yucky but needed a name. With six AIs I was potentially adding two AIs with 'Very'. I think adjectives are best avoided, if possible, and that very is a particularly generic adjective. Can anyone think of anything else that is clearly between Hard and Brutal or clearly above Brutal?

Beginner - Rookie - Amateur - Normal - Hard - Brutal

I like your justification for moving Normal to the fourth slot. Is the ordering Beginner - Rookie - Amateur clear?

What about Beginner - Novice - Easy - Normal - Hard - Brutal? Novices have some experience while Beginners may be completely fresh. I'm happy enough to make this change.

I think if "Easy" is the first difficulty on which you can be said to be playing a real game of ZK then that list makes sense.

I've made the change to Beginner - Novice - Easy - Normal - Hard - Brutal.
