bugs with new save system:
1) loads map for a few seconds without terraform textures restored
2) has a ready button near the top right corner always visible
3) crashes after load with access violation after about 10 seconds

doing more testing with another save, the game doesn't crash but the terraform textures are still not loaded at all. This used to work with the old save system in a previous version of the game.

another bug: unit control groups are still not saved

another issue, replacing a save doesn't update it's timestamp

another bug, unit move and cloak states are not loaded and are reset on load. Likely all unit states are not saved/loaded. From the description this update was supposed to save more things not less.

it also takes longer to save the game (makes sense though if more things were actually saved)

sound effects are also sometimes messed up after load.

the time not updating on the save updated for past saves after doing another save, so it's likely a load screen bug.

Here is the ticket for it: https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=6274

Some issues are gameside and others are engineside. I'm mostly translating between the tickets. The yellow ready box was recently fixed in the engine.

Link to crash reports and save games that cause these crash reports.

There are many more issues I listed here then just the ready button.

Are those going to be fixed?

This new system doesn't look to be saving anything extra then the original version and in fact it's saving less now. As I said, unit states are not saved, terraform textures are not saved (both of these worked before). In addition nothing new is saved that I could tell (eg. unit groups/hotkeys are not saved).

I haven't gotten the crash in new saves since that first one.

They'll likely be solved given time. The unit states issue is half resolved.

The new system saves many details about what is going on. All the physics and internal game mechanics states are saved. If you watched a saved game stitched together from the old system then units would jerk around and projectiles would likely exhibit weird behaviour. Things like antinuke missiles not missing upon loading a save game had to be coded in explicitly. That you didn't notice the jankyness is more a testament to the quality of the sleight of hand in the old system rather than its precision.

That's great stuff GoogleFrog, but fixed eventually is not what I want to hear when you just fixed the save system and important things are broken that worked before. As I said, the main things that need to work from what I saw so far are all unit states must be saved and loaded (worked before), all terraform textures have to be restored (worked before) and all unit control groups (Alt+#)(Ctrl+#) should be saved as well.

Thanks
