I agree generally Chinese like "do things together".
One month ago, my cousin's family drove a long way to Mongolian-China Russia-China borders to see the beauties there, and they met none young travelers(below age 40) during the almost 2 weeks travel.
It seems young Chinese aren't exploring the lands, espacially when not in public holidays.
I traveled on a train late August 2014 from one most populated area in middle-wast to east-south a destination for migrant workers. The airconditioning freezes me, as each passenger occupy 4 seats during the 1 day + trip. The train went through mountains and tunnels, very pretty sights. Cost < ￥200/$28 for 1300 kilometers. I bought last box of fruits￥10 as I consumed nothing a whole day and I was so poor with only ￥30,000, don't be like me :X. Then, a Gimbap￥10 when I arrive and a buffet at 4-star resturant.￥100. Living in Guangdong would cost so much.
2017 pre holiday season, I paid ￥20 to stay a night solely as a traveller, at a High-rise apartment with sea view near Macao I suspect if the moist disappear I could see Macao there. 5 days later during the holiday season I return to this city to take a flight home and found the price mutiply by 10 and fully occupied, eventually I decided to stay in McDonalds for the night, I saw gaint cockroach and bird of unknown species flying direct at me and pasted on the glass between I and them, I felt sorry for them, was I a large piece of food to them?
Hmm, I don't want to travel in cities. Never again...
