Hello and welcome back to the ninth week of Lobster Roll weeklies! We near the end.

WEEK NINE

A few housekeeping notes:

* This is your LAST CHANCE to earn 1v1 points before the end of the season. If you want to move up a spot or two, I highly recommend you come out and play. (#10 is something special, hint hint)

* Make sure to be in discord/zktourney 5 mins before tourney start so I can actually make sure the bracket is right. This seems to have been forgotten last week...

Signup link is here.

Tournament starts at 18:00 UST.

Rules and such are on the Challonge tournament homepage (SUBJECT TO BE EDITED AT ANY POINT).

Why not? It's generally been a really solid map choice for tournaments in terms of facplop fairness.

While I completely agree with the statement

I have to say no on the account of RNG. Adding any amount of RNG besides inherent RNG the engine or the base game itself adds compromises competitive integrity. I would say yes in any other setting, but where this is a ranked series, I have to decline this addition. Updated map pools will be out tomorrow.

As far as I know the randomly generated maps are guaranteed to be symmetric, so I don't think there is a competitive integrity problem in that sense, but I would be a bit concerned with the potential for bugs or particularly wonky maps.

I would also have sympathy for the position of any competitors who said "the rest of Zero-K is not about rapidly evaluating a brand-new map so why should this particular map in a tournament test that skill".

I'm for Random crags because a lot of "good" players are actually just well rehearsed on specific maps. You throw something random or unknown their way, and you get a far better measure of their actual talent and understanding of how to play.

We have new maps!

Random crags always seems so meh. If we want to remove the rehearsed-maps advantage, let's pick maps that haven't been in 1v1 rotation in a while. I prefer even "bad" maps over random crags.

I don't know that I would feel the need to describe players who get better with some practice and forethought as "good" with quotation marks. Quick adaptation is a skill but I don't think it necessarily deserves to be lauded over other skills.

Few housekeeping notes:

* Update your games please, we are playing on the latest version
* This is the last 1v1 tournament of the season so your last chance to get (regular) points

And one last big one:

* Due to game support issues, Sapphire Shores v2.2 (wet) has been changed to the dry variant for today's tournament.
