Bitmap Map Guide False

Hello, I have encountered the following line: "A texture map colour image with dimensions 5120 x 5120, saved as a .bmp"
This is a problem for two reasons.
First, it is false. Using the program provided in the wiki (pymapconv.exe) it is possible to use a regular .png file, with alpha channel removed.
Second, a bmp file takes up huge amount of space, 10x as much as a png.

I believe this explains the huge size of some maps (mediterranuem; 300mb) while others are tiny (10 mb).

Can somenone update the wiki, or am I missing something?

Again, I used a png file instead of a bmp and it worked totally fine.

I strongly doubt that using a .bmp for the texture makes the final map file large, since most or all of my maps will have been constructed in this way and they are not unusually large files.

(I suspect, though I do not know for sure, that the map compilation process makes the input file type irrelevant as long as the compiler supports it as input.)

The wiki may as well say that this is possible, since just from the perspective of the image creation process a png may be preferable.

However, I am strongly against listing every possible way to make a map in the guide for the sake of completeness alone. The purpose of the linked guide is to get a new mapmaker to the point where they have a working map. Once they achieve that they can experiment with alternative pathways. Therefore, many omissions from the guide are not "false", they are deliberate. Even in this case, a .bmp does work and is a little more foolproof.

Maps are distributed in a compressed format so .bmp file size should be compressed down to similar sizes as .png files anyway, as .png is a simplistic lossless compression format.
