I think it's worth trying, at least in test mode for a couple of weeks, to increase the size of all units by 1.5-2 times.
Perhaps the game will become much more visually pleasing, and its graphical enhancements will be much easier to notice.
Take Dota 2, for example: everything is more visible on the screen, which makes it very visually appealing.

I think so, especially with ships.
When ships were scaled up in previous patches, they started to look nicer.

I've invited a lot of new players to the game, and they're all put off by the difficulty of learning and understanding the game, especially the fact that the units are so small.
Newcomers' first impressions are the visuals, and then they delve deeper into the mechanics. Therefore, if it's easier for them to get used to the game and appreciate the scale and beauty of the units, I think more newcomers will stick around.

Maybe you would rather halve all ranges and speeds, then play more zoomed in? Make a tweakunits and call it Epic Mode. It sounds easier than doubling unit size, which would cause a lot of clipping if footprints were not made larger, which is a whole can of worms. Also larger units might have trouble fitting on the current scale of maps.

Huh, that's an interesting idea. Zero-K definitely has a bit of a learning curve, but I don't think its because of the size of the units. If you take games like Age of Empires or 0AD, the vast majority of units are people, and people have very small footprints--basically like your standard raider size in ZK, yet that doesn't seem to turn people off at all.

And, you can already do this in normal ZK. Just zoom in and you can see and control the units better. Yet, the majority of players spend most of their time doing the opposite.

Good unit design is being able to make out details of units and distinguish units from each other even when they are very small (like when you're zoomed out). I actually think Zero-K does a really good job of this compared to a lot of other games. Like, there are no two units that look even remotely similar, which is impressive given how many units there are.

Amazing, I love new graphics patch. Didn't know there was a graphics patch until I saw a new factory being built and my lotus's being more pretty than usual!

I'm actually curious what happens if you do the opposite and shrink all units. It would make accuracy more of a thing and I think it would look cool when there are many units on the field. It would also make stuff look less cartoony (firing distance is pretty tiny from an immersion POV).

Not saying doubling isn't also interesting but if its possible to do both that would be cool :D

xnt made a smaller units mod.. when i asked if he could do such a thing.. but there were many problems with collision and such

Chiming in, does no one else set unit icon distance to be very small so you have to be really zoomed
in to see the unit?
I mostly play zoomed out. I rarely have the ability nor the desire to micro for a sustained period of time. Accordingly, I haven't actually seen much change in the unit graphics. I like the new lazers though.

Ive been experimenting with using the COFC camera, and lowering the FOV (like 30 or below). The icons will be huge so you might have to lower the icon distance as well. With a lower FOV, everything appears much larger. the game is actually soooooo mhch better to play with a lower FOV, though there are a few quirks youll have to work out in settings (need to adjust icon distance, and adjust healthbars)

You can put OverheadFOV in springsettings to get the same effect, without using COFC. The default is 45.
