To clarify:
Early versions of CA had amphib vehicles/tanks. Using vehicle pathing means mappers will have an easier time creating borders between different areas than with amphib kbots.

Currently amphibs are only blocked by the steepest of cliffs. Compared to hovers, ships and other kbots they have much more access to different parts of the map. This means amphibs are very hard to balance to be viable on both land and sea without being extremely powerful on mixed maps.

Ramps leading to water on most maps are typically kbot pathable, but not veh, in the underwater part which allows hovers (who don't care about the underwater part) but would not allow amph-veh. Oceanfloor on the other hand is almost universally flat which makes any distinctions void (and rightly so, because it's difficult to see the shape of terrain underwater).

The idea is pretty interesting but maps need to happen first.

Perhaps there could be one super heavy tanky turtle amphib that can go land only on some maps that have only slight coast slopes.

Skasi, the amphibs were switched to bots away from being vehicles precisely because there were no maps that had vehicle-pathable shores. BA cheats by giving amphib vehicles bot pathing.

make all units amphibious, just very slow and unable to attack underwater. Water maps = no more tears!

Yeah and ravens should be able to dive underwater.
Or better: new unit in plane fac: penguin, only plane that cannot fly. It is an ambiphious bot that is silly on land but is very fast in water, has a powerful melee attack.
On that note: why can ducks not fly?

You forgot amphib planes. Some Spring games actually have amphib planes (see Seaplane Platform in BA or whatever)
