I never see them. Not in 1 vs 1 not in teams.
Would it be useful to make it immune to own emp dmg like pyro to own fire?

so u could put a minefield without revealing all ticks when one explodes

Same goes for venoms and panthers .....

But you surely mean: immune to friendly fire EMP or immune to EMP from units from the same player ...

Anyway, spread them out.

Tick is so good it's not even funny but it is defensive.
* ruins gator rush and the likes with crazy efficiency.
* if your comm is pushing alone have a Tick burrow below him - excellent raider bait.
* place a Tick under an LLT to ruin raider run-by or swarm attempts. You automatically make the enemy too scared to run raiders near your LLTs for the rest of the match too.
* heavier raiders (like Pyro) defeat Glaives and outpace Warriors, so Tick helps immensely if you manage to bury one in their path.
* can work in cases where AoE burst is urgently needed (eg. Ravager balls), including with a cloaker.
* has spider pathing so you can use it as an ghetto Flea to detect presence in areas that your usual scouts can't access (currently not really useful because most maps have no spider/jump areas that cloaky would want to scout but can't get into. One example is corners on Tartarus).

Also, no special damages. Pyro is immune to all burning, including enemy units or own Dantes, not just own fire. Ticks will not stun each other and will all detonate successfully as long as you ctrl+D the whole batch.

Also pretty bad Thug micro after the first Tick hit them. They were sent back using line move and later single-point move instead of drawing a big circle around them to make them spread up as much as possible. Though elo wasn't tooooo low so I guess that's a bit of a valid APM balance thing whatever.

Anyway, that's not to say Tick is weak. It's still pretty nice, just not as common nowadays. Probably because other factories have gotten much more powerful (Placeholder, Moderator and Firewalker for example) while many cloakies got nerfed (Ticks, Rockos and Sharpshooters come to mind).


That said, maybe Ticks expanding explosion effect should be made to match the actual EMP explosion speed. Could help improve clarity a bit. Or the other way around, increase EMP speed to match the gfx and to reduce the occurrences of units getting EMPed after they left the AoE (and players possibly being confused/frustrated over this bug).

Ticks are wayyyyyyy under-rated.

(Except when they're bugged and won't unburrow in the untested engine version used for tourney.)

the burrowing bug was ZK, not engine.
The engine was definitely to blame for desync though.

ticks were decent then Googlefrog kept losing to them in 1v1 so he decided to nerf

I still use them occasionally in 1v1, they are viable in glaive mirror situations
