So I fired up me zk for the Nth time, and finally, there were people online with which to play.

Unfortunately, it seems like someones been fiddling with stuff and everything is broked.
- Ravens, wyverns refuse to fire. Go to orbital altitudes and forget where the map is?
- Krow shoots it's payload up like a sprinkler. Reminiscent of those top down spacebattle bosses. Lands in a very large area of effect similar to the tremor.
- On the map in the top left, there's a TV or something that pops up every time I scroll. In maps where my base happens to be in the top corner, it's difficult to see my base.
- Every now and then I'm granted vision of the entire battlefield for no reason. Possibly linked to having units on high terrain.

The thing with the map may not be a bug but some obscure option I enabled trying to calibrate my UI, but the other things were experienced by both players.

those matches were with engine test version.
On the BLEEDING EDGE rooms you are half playing half testing.

not that it's my business but aren't we supposed to report bug from bleeding edge room as well?
so that they can be fixed?

Would also like to mention that sumo's newton guns a bit strong/bugged. Makes Krow slide on the map when used against it...

Bleeding edge bugs are worth reporting, especially since it's been over a month since the last release. I'm not sure the dynamic commanders are done enough to be tested fruitfully, but if you don't mind finding out the known issues first then you might as well.

zero-K lacks directions to players how to effectively report bugs. At minimum something like https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30848
But since reports from players will always be spread through forum and never be quite as accurate, devs also need to translate them into bugtracker and stop complaining about complains. (Cultural problem.)
Without that there is no use to make players play test-versions, only annoyances with no benefits.

Yay, I can play against CAI in my free time for no reason in BE room :D

Well, there is a "help and bugs" section of the forum. Presumably that is a valid place to report bugs.

Seems actually more useful than redirecting everyone to github, since the bug reports of less technically literate players can be sanitised (is this actually a bug? is it already known?) before they clutter up github.

I don't see anybody complaining about complaints here, either. Not really sure where that came from.

First of all, we seriously need a efficient ticket system. Suggestions?

Also, when I tried to start BE game in ZKL, lobby crashed. Any known error there?

My post was not about having a "help and bug" section. It is about how to use it.

Clicked my link?
The trick is to tell players HOW to report bugs, what information to give, where to find the logfiles, even simple things like how to share screenshots and using descriptive titles.
For example this thread is titled "Bugs?" which is bad. And that is not fault of players if they make bad bugreports, it is caused by lack of instructions how to make better ones.

Well, for example what you did just yesterday. I proposed a better description for a mission. You posted that this is "nitpicking." Some time ago when someone had used multiple reports about bugged installer to investigate it, you posted something about "flaming the devs." Of course that is not just you but that is two examples I still remember right now.
The forum-search would be another example, people posting silly workarounds or explaining that the search actually is now working flawless when the last fix had not deployed on server yet.

It is hard enough to get from player-reported-bug to bug-tracker to solution. It does not help if there are overly protective users standing in way and denying flaws or discouraging players from posting bugs.

There IS issue tracker on github!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111345678pionk,jdxw879 After years of losing reports by babbling in chat and forum it has finally become more used.
Next step would be to use it better, like using the tagging system to mark bugs as "important" or "minor" or "nice to have."
That would help to track status of project so that there would not constantly be wrong assumptions about when the game is "ready." There would also be no need to waste time on writing excel documents or to-di lists in forum, because To-Do is automatically created: Just look at open issues.

What is BE?

(my primary suspicion atm is that someone read BETA as "B.E. Total Annihilation")

BE means Belgium to me, but I might be biased.

A button that said Report Bugs from the homepage a linked somehere that you could report bugs seems like it would be helpful, especially if the place it linked to had the kind of instructions knorke describes.

Well, it was in fact pretty pointless nitpicking.
[Spoiler]I also don't really think that your name was significantly "better" (though the more useful description was good). Even given that, the negative attitude you have towards other people's work, efforts and opinions and your tendency to make it about them as opposed to just something that needs fixing is not very pleasant to work with.

They were pointlessly flaming the devs and much more productivity would have been had if Sheep had stopped obscuring his bug reports with a heavy dose of bullshit. It was difficult to distinguish the real issues from the ones that arose solely out of Sheep's bias - and that was on him to fix, not anybody else, and I told him so.

Pretty much this:
quote:
@KingRaptor
"It's feedback!" is not a license for behavior that the user's mother could tell them is bad, and such behavior is treated accordingly. I hardly think the reaction here was incorrect.

I don't think I've ever dissuaded anybody from doing anything related to a valid bug report where their mother would not have done the same.

EDIT: Do not misunderstand my intention here. All I am trying to do is inform you as to how to submit a useful bug report. Obviously (if you've read that springrts page) you understand the technical side, but you don't seem to understand the side of "don't pointlessly insult or annoy the person who would fix it at the same time".

Even if you have a valid argument, that doesn't mean the person who left it the way it was previously was stupid or even that they made a mistake. For instance, at the time it was made the CCR Macro Challenge was a useful name to most everybody that was interested in it, the fact that this was the latest version was possibly useful, and referencing the original creator was at least polite. (I acknowledge that the unreasonable behaviour with respect to this issue was mostly on RUranks36 rather than you.)

Can you get a picture of the little TV that pops up every time you scroll?
