Can we please see the unfeaturing of all the stupid maps from the noobhosts?
eg.
longcat
epicshore

these maps are
- incredibly ugly
- play nothing like regular maps
- always take a VERY long time to resolve, and are mostly resolved by nukes
- train new players that are clueless at the regular game, and instead try and vote these maps in.
- get spam voted in by idiots

if people want to kill their time on these noobholes, perhaps allow them to host the map themselves rather than force it upon others via vote. If the noobhosts are the intended first destination of new players, these atrocities are not what we want making first impressions.

Those two maps aren't featured, and never were afaik.

During the worst Trololo-map times, there was an attempt at making only the featured maps playable in the Newbs Welcome hosts, to remove Trololo and other weirdo maps from the pool. Many players disliked this, however, including admins like Skasi and Rafal, and so, Trololo got added to featured maps. Thus, the change didn't really accomplish anything, and was reverted.

So right now, any map can be played in these hosts, by voting for it.

But longcat as well as epicshore are truly bad! Trololo and similar at least "played like regular maps". We should bring back the "featured" requirement and feature any map except these two. :]

Ooo, 1v0ry, ask players not to spam votes when they didn't pass once or twice. Most will understand (sooner or later) and stop. Remind them that they are able to create their own rooms. Ask others for help if need be.

and maps like duck, trololo are mostly short solved...

Yeah I think maps above a certain size and resource output are a problem in general when it comes to playability/quality. A harsh idea would be to track player's average fps with a widget/gadget for every map, unfeature the lower 10% and spew warnings on !votemap. Can also be done without the fps-tracking.

or just unfeature the obviously shitty maps mentioned

wait, so unfeatured maps can be voted in? if so, what is the point of the featuring system?

!votemap without a map name will result in a random, featured map with a size based on player numbers. That's the point. :)

Just because you don't like how these maps are played, it does not mean that they are "stupid" or "voted in by idiots" or "noobholes".

Hear, hear to the first post.

I know, they are unfeatured so they have to be voted in explicitly. (I am guessing that burp is the one calling the !votemap longcat32, even though he is a spec).

Actually, longcat isnt nearly as bad as epic shore. It is just a tad ugly and flat. The huge amount of metal in the middle which does not show makes it tend to end in a 'who can wield the biggest unit first' or 'have you seen this lovely nuke in a place where the sun doesnt shine for you, my dear' kind of match.

So, burp, more variety on the map next time, less metal and make sure the metal is shown!

@burp
as you say, me not liking those maps has no effect on whether those maps are shit - they remain shit no matter what I think. Pick a criteria: texture? ugly. heightmap? crude. metal-map? bleugh. gameplay? porcy, lag inducing spam. They cant even claim to be lulz, since they have none of the action of the 4x4 lolmaps.

I could go on, but there really is no need. You like those maps burp, but that is because you made them. Which is fine. I have no problem with you liking or playing your maps. My problem is with:
a) being made to play them myself, or otherwise forced to sit out since no other games are running.
b) new players receiving their first impression of ZK via epicshore/longcat/speedmetal etc

It seems to me that if you want to play these maps, you could host them yourself via the host game button - then people who find these maps desirable could join your game, while those that don't have a 0% chance of being made to play them against their will.

I agree with your criteria for deciding whether a map is terrible or not, i also think the ability to vote maps or vote for a change in the map should be stopped.

You should just play the next map in the sequence and get on with it.

burp, these maps are purely played by hardware. Although the whole mod's a bit heavy on hardware, longcat and epicshore are very extreme. That's scaring away potential players. I really wouldn't lock any map ever, simply because everyone likes different ones, but at least when it comes to newbie rooms and maps designed only around low-fps-handling (this is probably a bit of an exaggeration, not meant to be offensive) we should make an exception.

so make these mapy only unlocked for another special "powerhardwareepicgame" room?

I was thinking about "Super big teams room", 16x16+, but since map size should be independent of player numbers your idea's probably better, landlubber.

Juggler is based on the idea that one game of type N is exactly the same as any other - that one Small Teams is as good as any other Small Teams.

To protect this, non-featured maps and custom gameoptions really shouldn't be allowed. Having a room dedicated to team-missions, special maps, custom options, etc. would help alleviate this problem.

If we're forced to play with the juggler, then let's at least keep it sane.

Get rid of the 64x4 maps or move the Special maps to a special lobby. I'm really tired of Duck, trololo and chess.
