Are transports supposed to transport ships?

I noted in the Zero-K wiki that the Hercules could transport any land unit in the game, and yet here I am moving ships directly onto dry land and back. Is that supposed to be intended?

Either way, I find that interaction incredibly intriguing. It means that I could potentially use ships as powerful turrets on maps with little water, rescue ships and subs that beach onto dry land, or even grief my opponent's ships onto land!

Play a few lobpot/multiplayer games and youll notice how silly your post is.

Believe so, sometimes you can find people putting battleships/artillery on land, though i mostly see people using lobsters to move them as opposed to gunships.

Ah, thanks for the quick response! I suppose someone should get around to updating that wiki page.

Cloaked hercules-borne Scylla is capable of ending games on some FFA maps.

If you actually try putting ships on land you will realize they suck. Without the ability to move, their usefulness is quite limited. Ships are also quite expensive across the board, meaning that it makes more sense to just build a Cerberus if you want fixed artillery on land. A Cerberus costs roughly 3 Envoys or so, and about half of a Shogun.

In fact, its such a bad strategy that its considered trolling your own team to do this.

That being said, if you have won sea completely, and your ships can't carry out a meaningful bombardment campaign against the enemy from their current position, you might as well move them onto land, as otherwise they will just sit around doing nothing for the rest of the game. Reclaiming them would only give you back about half the metal.

Chances are, you have full access to the Wiki and can do that yourself if you feel like it. Some pages on the Wiki were written for older versions of Zero-K and may contain outdated or simply inaccurate information. Help to keep it up to date.

I think this is underselling Envoy and Shogun a bit, and it is definitely underselling Scylla. A mobile tacsilo is no joke. It is more often done with Lobster though, to avoid anti-air and generally have a bit more flexibility.

Outside of maybe Scylla it is not something I would do without a good reason to want ships on water as well, though.

I didn't take Scylla into account to be fair, as I have never used it. I agree that a mobile tac silo sounds pretty powerful, and since it has a very long range it never needs to be a sitting duck in the frontline. I'd still only think of using it to assassinate something really important.

Envoy and Shogun aren't bad, I just find it unlikely that they're more cost-efficient on land than land artillery, given that land artillery won't need a complement of lobsters to throw them around, nor the associated micro.

Can you plop a Djinn teleport point in the water? I've never tried...

Yes you can. The only thing that I have found weird about the djinn is that if you are transporting a sea unit (boat or sub) the djinn must be in the water.

What I would like to see is a ship that can transport units - besides the reef.
