What needs to be done to talk about the climate of the game?

First quoting the COC:

quote:
If you feel a moderator has acted unfairly, you may file a complaint using the "Contact administrators" button on your user page or (if absolutely necessary) on the forum and explain your position.

The reason why this thread is abs necessary on the forum is that actually, disputes should be resolved in public by default other forum users may benefit from it as a guide to their future forum behaviors, and it saves the effort for mods if any similar case occurs again.

AUrankAdminAquanim deemed the thread about the climate of the game (http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/33562) problematic, saying

quote:
This thread does not seem to be improving. Locked and Asylumed

and thus hiding the thread and barring anyone from further comments. In specific, my ongoing conversation was unanswered and couldn't continue as a result.

So I have a question. What kind of improvement is required in order for a thread on that topic to remain open to everyone?

If you decided the entire topic should be taken down, I argue otherwise. Many of us recognize that the game is ok in climate (whatever that word meant), but that should be a conclusion from the players' comments, not an assumption we just make. I figure if you're a mod, you wanna know the players' ideas. It can't be achieved unless the channel to discussing the related topics is open.

If not, I'd really appreciate it if you bother to point to the part that causes your mod moves.

The climate of the game? Gonna keep opening up random topics so you can voice your online victimization. This is such a vague and open topic meant to open the door for so called 'cyber bullying' accusations or people 'not being nice enough'.

Mods please lock and close again.

CNrankFumica has a good point. Let the man speak without getting shut down every time someone disagrees with him. What's so bad if someone else sees these threads? They'll hear about someone's bad attitude? Maybe that's a good thing so the guy with the poor behavior shapes up or risks his toxicity being exposed to the public.

Namely the part where the thread actually goes somewhere. There was:
- No actual discussion on the "climate" of the game.
- No actual solutions discussed.

Just like this thread, a whole bunch of nothing is being discussed. For a thing to be not nothing, you need actual substance. What is the point of that thread? Obviously you're trying to discuss a problem. The question is what problem? The insinuation of the previous thread was that there was a toxicity problem. Great, we've identified a topic. Now for a thread to be useful you need some of the following:

- Examples. (Strange how the only example was some drama post from 2019)
- Solutions. (None given)
- Problems. (The only determinable problem was that some random guy got a cold shoulder 2 years ago and got mad over it)
- Opinions. (Most of the discussion around it was in response to YOUR lawyer-esing about completely minuscule details)
- Facts.

Hence, the topic was closed. There was really no point for the thread to exist. Nothing was being discussed surrounding this nebulous "climate" (insinuated that it means toxicity/social environment) topic.

Take a scroll through the asylum and tell me what benefit did any of these "grievance" posts provide.

Essentially this. A thread in which the game community was actually being discussed would not have been closed. The previous thread was not doing that.

Looking at the posts after my first warning here:
[Spoiler]
So in all of that the only post which has any relevance to the "topic of the thread" was Smokedragon's last post, and most of the relevant parts were edited in after the decision was made to lock the thread.

CNrankFumica in the previous thread you said:
quote:
It's not evident that the original question was "pseudo-innocent". Plz elaborate.

Based on the existence of this thread https://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/25530?page=1 and the immediately previous existence of this thread https://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/33531 I consider it quite obvious that the OP of NOrankrockingchairrabbit in the previous thread was neither honest nor innocent.

quote:
actually, disputes should be resolved in public by default

This would cause a lot of drama about banal trivialities for no good reason. Case in point, this thread. You could quite easily have asked me the above question directly.

For the record, you believing you know better is not an excuse for deliberately and explicitly disregarding the Code of Conduct.

I fully agree with CNrankFumica and USrankSkrid.

"Let the man speak without getting shut down every time someone disagrees with him." is a brilliant summary.

>Take a scroll through the asylum and tell me what benefit did any of these "grievance" posts provide.

If you're gonna evaluate each post on the forum with "benefit" measurement and delete and shut down and move posts and topics on the basis of not being beneficial, there will be soon no forum at all.

This thread is a complaint of a specific mod move. Reorganized in your useful-thread-template:

Examples:
Aquanim locked and asymlumed a thread without clear explanation.

Problems:
1. Mods failing to explain their moves
2. Mods moving too much

Solutions:
1. Mods should always explain their moves.
2. Mods should save from moves for stuff like that.

Opinions:
Players' ideas can only be known if the channel to discussing the related topics remains open.

That concludes the thread.

Now to your further replies

quote:
There was really no point for the thread to exist.

That's not a justification for mods to take actions on it. Something just existed and needs not find a point for that. You should find a point in order to change it.

Let's be honest. You find "grievance" in it because the grievance is there, no matter how you try to hide it. There's long been tension in the air of the forum, and it only increases if you keep this dismissive style of moderation.

It's astonishing you've been monitoring the thread and judging every reply. I don't intend to label you as something, but you know what infamous fictional character that is like?

Mods actively checking if a thread does what it's supposed to do and intervening when it's deemed otherwise are what I feel very uncomfortable with.

First, what a thread is naturally supposed to do is at the op's discretion, not mods'.

Second, everyone has some integrity and autonomy, esp in this anonymous, international cyberspace. Typically, one deciding to participate the forum has the basis that they find themselves capable of communicating and subject to positive feedbacks from it.

Third, we already have autohiding -5 voted posts.

I showed from avg forum users' and mods' perspective why this thread is abs necessary in public. You not being convinced isn't an excuse for accussing me of disregarding the COC. To put it straight, the clause is vague and can always be bent to mods' favor. I suggest you avoid such suspicions as a mod.

The op made clear the very thread wasn't related to any previous ones. Yet you opted to insist the op was malicious based on your mindset rather than following their present words. Some of you also tried to disrupt the conversation by appealing to the op's identity or motives.

Then I responded by "posting meta-arguments" because I don't think those fallacies are ok on their own, with the hope that thru discourse they would fix their arguments up. Maybe I shouldn't have done that.

Au contraire, you should be spotting the fallacies. You should be warning them for their unfriendly replies.

I feel carrying this on will again be categorized as lacking substance so I'll summarize here:

It's ungood of mods to be actively filtering threads. It's ungood of people to be judging others harsh and mean.

I'll get to the rest of your post in good time but this contrast between the start and end of your post is pretty goddamned hilarious.

Yeah, with the fact that I even expressed my feelings in euphemism.

I gather CNrankFumica has been generally consistent between first and last of the quotes so I am not exactly sure what you are aiming at.

Mods actively throwing their abilities around, judging and filtering posts and threads (without immediate necessity!) is not something that's indeed good, that is my understanding of his post. There is no contradiction in his words. And I gotta say I can get behind his statements.

To put it bluntly, why you are fixing what's not broken? Leave those threads be, what harm are they?

If somebody punches you in the face one day, and then comes back the next day and says "Nothing I did yesterday matters, you should trust that I am acting nicely today", without giving you ANY reason to think they are sincere other than those words, are you going to believe them?

I certainly wouldn't, I'm not that naive. Nor were most of the people in the previous thread.

In fact I find it hard to believe ANYBODY is that naive. It is pretty easy to believe somebody is pretending to be that naive in order to start stupid forum drama though.

Get over it, because doing that is our job.

The rest of your post is so devoid of a reasonable argument that I am not going to spend the time replying to it.

Locking this thread.

CNrankFumica, USrankSkrid, RUrankOntheheavens:
Any attempt to restart this discussion will result in a forum ban. Any other attempt to start or escalate shitty forum drama of any kind will result in a forum ban. Similar goes for Discord or in-lobby communication. Do not expect anything that any of you say to be given the benefit of the doubt from this point onwards. Do not expect your forum ban to be short.

If you want to discuss this decision, contact myself or another admin on Discord, in the lobby, or using the contact an admin button on your user page. Making another forum thread to argue about this decision will result in a forum ban. Bitching about it in a public Discord or lobby channel will result in a ban or mute as applicable.
