If the insinuation here is that the game remains a small community because there are some assholes in the game, I'd have to disagree. Yes there are some bad apples and yes, this is particularly regrettable in a small community (and I've even had to take a break from the game because of some). But the percentage of assholes in a small or large community often remains about the same. Zero-k doesn't retain a large player base because the RTS genre is small and because the game doesn't have a marketing budget to invest in its promotion. And because the graphics look dated, which matters to many younger players (although at its core its certainly the most advanced rts I've ever played).

3 years ago you sent a random ZK player a private message, 28 minutes later you sent a rude message cause you didn't get a reply, then you get upset the player responds rudely to your rude message.. then you make a post on the forums blaming the whole community... then 3 years later, apparently still upset, you make another forum post about it...

if he is upset for 3 years then i bet you a golden carrot he was also wronged in some way.. perhaps even a very small way.. but i bet he will kill you all before he forgives he probably just wants a halfway sorry.. and sorry is free i will take on this blame.. i am sorry i know i wasn't in anyway involved.. but im sorry that nobody said sorry sooner or showed any desire to fix things its probably felt awful to have nobody siding with you or showing a desire to understand your feelings if only i was about i could have possibly diffused the situation then again sometimes i wonder if people dont want drama and conflict...

It is kind of unfortunate that he encountered Drone in this instance... but then again if somebody had said to me (or many other generally reasonable members of the community) quote: so, you're too good to give me a simple reply |
after I spent half an hour not checking my DMs then they could expect to be given pretty short shrift.

some people have short fuses .. i guess maybe its ?good? we trigger them and then ban them to the void for being an upset human we could have treated him/her as a special person who is wound up like a spring and needs help to calm down and focus on reconciliation

THere is just too many replies here for me to give you all individual responses, but I think my point have come across and that we've all (maybe even me) learned a lesson here.

Eh yes, we learned that over three years, you have not been able to process a rude answer from a random person on the internet. Ignoring the fact that you were rude first...

I wasnt gona say something.. but since some of you think that I was the one who started being rude - ill shed some light on the situation. Some of you think that I, was rude first. While I clearly remember that this DRONE guy was active in the chat while IGNORING my message. So he clearly was rude first, and my reply was nothing but a natural response from someone who was ignored and disrespected by one of your communities leading personalities. And what took me by surprise (other than DRONES lack of manner and empathy) is that the rest of you almost carried him on a golden chair through the forums. I hope this have shed some light on the whole ordeal. I didnt want to bring it to this level, but you left me no choice.

This isn't how things work here (and I'd expect everywhere else approximating a public space).
-
response to random smalltalk is a courtesy you can extend to the sender. Regardless of what you think, nobody is required to extend that courtesy, despite most doing so.
-
you are free to get offended by not having been extended that courtesy, but that is not grounds for a passive-aggressive follow-up.
-
DRONE's first two lines of response were blunt, but as far as I can tell he's pretty much answering your question honestly.
-
his third "u retard" line was uncalled for, but that has been dealt with at the time appropriately to the scale and context of the abuse.
If you think community standards are low then feel free to show more recent, and better, examples. If the most prominent example you can find is a minor gray-area incident from 3 years ago involving one of the most problematic players around, then I think that's a state of affairs I'm happy with.

Nice forum we have when someone calling another person a "retard" out of nowhere, and im not even talking about the issues about using this kind of experssion in the modern age. And then you have people like Sprung defending it? Yeah, my asumptions were correct; youre taking zero-k with you down the drain. Good job!

I am not going to go into any more confrontations with individuals here. That leads to no good. If you guys have so much issues with me, then I suggest you find a common ground and write a summary about your complaints together and have Drone write it here. I wont belower myself anymore.

I think most people here agree with your sentiment that it would be ideal if everybody was courteous all the time. It is unfortunate that we disagree on how productive it would be to enforce such standard via moderation, but there is a trade-off and we can't satisfy everybody. quote: I am not going to go into any more confrontations with individuals here. |
I'll treat this as a request to lock the thread.
