Small Teams - Preferred times?

Double_Helix_DNA 6 months ago Picture this: You want to do small teams, so you go into lobpot, advertise small teams, no one replies. You suck it up, join lobpot so you can play Zero-K and play until the team size becomes 4v4. Then everyone leaves. Well, this is an effort to change that. This way, we can organize small teamgames for those who want to join in. It is my hope we can run small teams without waiting forever for other players to come in, missing games of Zero-K while we wait. Palladium is like this, but it had an elo floor. This small teams doesn't. It is welcome to anyone and everyone who wants to play a smaller-sized Zero-K experience! Post times in UTC so we can convert to our local time. Personally, I would be fine with 2300-0100 UTC for small teams. This is around the same time as prime lobpot. What times would you guys be willing to play 2v2 - 8v8 on ZeroK? +2 / -0
Helwor 6 months ago I did that for a while, hosted a 1v1 - 5v5 room what usually happen is you got small teams until it grows and comes the evening, then extra ppl joining complain they can't play and scream GO TO ALL WELCOME ! And then you end up -not all not all not all but most- alone. But I'm euro, so idk about US time. +6 / -0
Double_Helix_DNA 6 months ago (edited 6 months ago) If we can get preferred times, then we can organize the room around those times. It will just be players hopping into the autohost room. I think it is good to have more pvp options beyond lobpot. +1 / -0
malric 6 months ago (edited 6 months ago) I like many times small teams, but I do not play that often lately, so might not be able to join much. One thing I noticed with small teams is that if couple of players "take a break" the host will die as people move on. Also it would somehow help to have some variety in the teams. I can play one/two games at a disadvantage, but from the 3rd game on I feel it is useless to play. Would be very nice if balancer could take into account last X games, and if it notices it was the same teams with the same outcome he changes "something". Balancing manually might work but automated stuff might lead to less discussions... Edit: but if I would know/see this small team I would definitely try to join it! +5 / -0
Double_Helix_DNA 6 months ago Is manually balancing the team through !balance not give a fair outcome? Alternately I could just make a room and manually balance people. But hey, make sure to post what times would best suit so we can try this out! +0 / -0
malric 6 months ago Generally balance works but IF there is an imbalance (extreme example: 5 blues and one brown player), the problem is not one imbalanced game, but you might get 3-4 imbalanced games with the same teams (as WHR might not adjust fast enough over 2-3 games). When I play, I tend to play between UTC 21:00 and UTC 23:00 (and occasionally when I can't stop many hours after UTC 23:00 ;-) ). +1 / -0
