People often get mad at FFA, but I love it!
In a team game, your teammates often expect you to be professional. After all, there is victory on the line. The enemy must die, and your teammates must not feed, that is the general rule of thumb. It is even worse if somebody ragequits, or, say, does a dumb strategy that is counterproductive.

In FFA, nobody cares.
You'd also think that more teams would motivate more fighting? NO! It's the opposite! I hate being alone in a lobby with my voices! And if your neighbours are shouting slurs at you (such as "the anti-tank missile gambit,") just say it! Chances are, someone won't be happy of a hateful opponent. I got destroyed once without attacking anyone, and the aggressive guy got absolutely nuked for taking my dead land.

Plus, it's fun negotiating peace terms that nobody believes in but somehow remain upheld!

A special comment to those who hate teaming in FFA, this is how you sound:
I HATE FRIENDSHIP! I HATE FRIENDZONES! I DON'T CALL WOMEN FRIENDS

It's okay, we don't mind. We were there too, and we learned.

There is teaming and then there is teaming in FFA.

If there are three players hanging out in the FFA room one day, and two of them are friends and keep ganging up on the third player, that doesn't sound very fun.

If everybody plays for themselves for a while, and then the two weaker players gang up on whoever the stronger player happens to be at the current point in time, that seems entirely reasonable.

There are two contradictory phenomenons at play.

If player1 is the highest rated and the other players gang on them until elimination, then why should player1 participate in FFAs at all? At best, player1 is immediately stuck in a situation where they have to defend while any other player builds up passively, and then that other player gets so far ahead no amount of skill can overcome the advantage.

However, if nobody attacks the highest rated player and everybody plays sensibly, the game lasts for hours until someone gets bored and makes a move. At that point, whichever player wins the encounter gets ganged up on by the rest and the winner is just the more patient player. That's boring.

That being said, nobody playing ffa ever wants any map other than ramparts gen (or any other variation of ramparts) where it is super easy to see what's going on as one adv radar will give you vision on the entire land portion of the map and there is only one small path leading to neighbors, so all raiding strategies and expanding covertly are nullified. We're left with silo plays every game.

Ramparts sucks. Ganging up on a particular player is harder to do on wider, more open maps with asymmetrical spawns.
