I agree, the lack of vision underwater makes playing water maps a nightmare.

One thing I noticed recently is that all underwater weapons are basically guaranteed hit. Which loses a lot of the nuance of zk being able to dodge with good micro. I wonder if this is why sea feels so bad compared to land?

Sonar that worked like radar used to exist. The extent of that sonar was difficult to communicate to players. A conscious design choice was made to get rid of it, so that underwater units would have more distinct properties compared to surface units.

The 3-D nature of underwater combat makes it very difficult to design weapons that are not guaranteed hit which would be good for gameplay. I do not want to be doing surface/submerge micro on Buoys to dodge unguided torpedoes, for instance.

Urchin has the same sonar range as Sonar Station in the game files but it is expencive. a cheap way to detect underwater units is a windgen.. when it dies you know units are on there way

If you have at least 1 air, owl will usually spot it. That's like 2nd on my build order as air
