2v2 proposal

Hello everybody,
Last days I have been thinking about games, in which I learned most about using units, counter system and then generally about games, where I had most fun.
I realized 2v2 games may be really good for all players. I know there have been polls about game size but lets just concentrate on what all players may enjoy and what this 2v2 host may bring to game:
1.newbies: Possibility of playing with skilled player in room, where he is focusing only on you (besides his own front),it may not be like in teams or small teams, where he has more players to look at (not mentioning his own front). This is way they can teach fastest I think, it is not really possible to make all-teaching tutorial or single player mission - but playing with pro player may really have possitive impact on teaching players how to play, how ZK counter system works, and also how to be a good player in few days.
2.players, who do not feel that they need to learn something anymore: they may have really enjoyable games in 2v2 host, as its not teams, but its not 1v1. You have entire half of front, you have to be able to stop attacks like in 1v1, but still you can ask for help when neccessary like in teams. Players are still forced to be able to counter units, hold front and to be reliable, but there is also a bit of cooperation, but there is more of it. In 2v2 players need to be more connected like in teams, as they are only 2 on entire game. I think there is much more possibilities with 2v2 host like in 1v1 and also like in teams.
3.people, who like watching replays: there is lot more action than in 1v1 and its still pretty easy to notice everything recently going on.

My fav is 3v3, but I'd really like to see 2v2 tournaments simply because I doubt 3v3 tourneys will be possible to pull off with current player numbers and timezone differences.

2v2s for new players are probably a good idea. Players are not alone but the game is still small, so no problem like "player does not influence the game" which I think makes it hard for new players to gauge how well they did.

2v2 tournament is such a good idea. I think it would be even cooler than 1v1, because it isn't "Goode pwnz everybody and get all cookies" and u can play with ur buddy.

Soo now I think its time for question whether somebody will make host for 2v2 games? Or better, are admins going to do something with this proposal or not?

There is not much admins can do... anyone can host 2v2 game (set limit to 4 people)..

I think he means that someone should set up an official autohost for 2v2, like there is for 1v1 and teams.

...inb4 "3v3 autohost plox".

I think the small teams autohost is really sufficient.

Yup, small teams is usually very close to the points CZrank[X]Athon mentions. Games are 2v2 to 4v4 (higher splits afaik). Once there's too many players, just spec a game or two, when there's a 4v4 unspec and it'll split. Wee!

So you guys want to start a 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 tournament? How can we chose the teams? For example if Godde choses @Googlefrog for his team how can i beat him up if i have @Saab in team? How can you balance these kind of games? Or this will be a moment where we make our own balance.

Well, how do you balance the 1v1 tournament? Answer: You don't. Of course, the fact that Godde won was not really news to anybody.

Why would it be different for teams?

Ok so again Godde will chose second best big elo nab player from top 1 vs 1 and he will win tournament ( or not if they dont play well as a team:D- theres a big chance). I think it depends a lot. 2 vs 2 its a bit different even if top 1 and 2 1 vs 1 players are in same team and in the other team are just 2 top team players. Not once i saw how me and my clan beated the other team easily(even if we had newbie stack) with a bit of teamwork.

more like balanced teams...like best elo player gets worst elo player to his team or sumthing...

I think the best way to balance teams would be clan vs clan. The problem with this is that there are only 3 clans who could realistically compete in a tournament, GBC, ISP and MM. Alternatively, the competitors could sort themselves out into teams, although this may not be as balanced as other options.

Or what if we just make it without cbalance, there will be four players balanced in two teams like 1. with 4. and 2. with 3. that would be fair(For example top 4 tournament now Godde and Anarchid vs Drone and ProRandy). In tournament people would just be random thrown in game where it balances them, who wins goes further, who fails is out. After winning you will be in group of all players wo won and you will get another random 3 players of this group to play with in next round. I think its best way, because we really dont have almost any chance against Godde plus Drone.

What is the point of 2v2 tournament if every player cannot select his teammate? In order to win this kind of tournament, you must work as a team, so that means you cannot just play with a random players (you can, but it is not much fan).

GBrankTheSponge
It is only 2v2, so there are lots of small clans which can play.

I think @MauranKilom is right. You don't balance tournament. Everybody team up with his buddy, create a team name and play.

Can they work well as a team? You don't know, so there is a chance.

You're assuming that Godde and Drone want to play together. Maybe they don't.

There's a lot of different ways you could structure a 2v2 tournament, and there's nothing that says that any one of them is the one and only right way to do it. It's just a question of which tournament would be the most interesting and fun for the players and the audience.

I think either of the following would be fun and interesting:

a) Every player chooses their own teammates freely

b) Teams are assigned to (roughly) balance Elo - Highest paired with lowest, second highest paired with second lowest, etc.

It is the worst idea ever. If I want to be in a team with a random nab, I can just play teams. Also, voice communication can be a very important part of working as a team, yet two random people may have problem with understanding each other (keep in mind that ZK community is very international).

I think it'd be nice if top ten players didn't team up with other top ten players and similar. That should not be a tournament rule, but just something for people to consider when forming teams. Tho I'd imagine Godde and Znack would team up and their avg elo would be the same as rANDY and burp (#3 and #4 respectively).

Don't let Godde team up with himself.
