Athena suggestions

Given how the lineup for the athena was set in the times when vaultlaws were a thing and stilleto was stunningly good, I thought that the lineup might use a slight touchup (and a saw an empty space in the trird row! moar units!)

Since I don't know on what base the current units were picked, here are some different approaches:

1) Mixed role / clear role
units are picked because they are supports(moderator, but this has changed, so might need a look at) or do lots of stuff kinda well, but not good (bandit, panther - both are raiders, both light assults) or they have a very clear role (spy, impailer)
This filter for units gives the athena a support factory role, since it can deploy a lot of varaity in your composition with the mixed roles, as well as help you with reacting with your clear roles
- Outlaw (not a riot now, can add?)
- Black Dawn (no GS option, but still BD does lots of stuff that the description can't cover)
- Mace (not that I thought this through, but it's riot capabilities are not as good as it's skirm ability's. Also Athena has no riot option)
- Hammer (best arty in ZK, does what you ask it to as well)
- Penetrator (mixed role, just let it audition)
- Buoy (not sure what to say, maybe it should belong in the next section)
- Scrubber (maybe replacing bandit... not sure what I was trying to say with this)
- venom (awsome riot, not really a riot, it makes no sence and that's why it should be here)
- redback (maybe not, because reasons)

2) Just weird units
Units that are there because they do stuff others can't (Djinn, flea)
This filter will allow you to just suprise your oppenent or make something that doesn't fit into counter structures really well
- archer
- wolverine
- dominatrix (i'm jst following my own rules - this doesn't mean I totally agree with myself
- Placeholder
- Tremmor (hope spelling is close enough for me to name the right unit)
- roach/tick (although might become OP)
- valk/vindi (might become OP)
- sumo

3) kmar, you are stupid and wrong... and stupid
kmar has wasted your time by thinking he know stuff. Since he doesn't have the slightest idea of why athena is athena, you don't have to take this post seriously any longer... but!
- scallop (because athena needs a riot, but any good riot is too good)
- newton (defence tab, newton, newton, newton, newton... newton!)


Not sure if I was serious about this post... but I'll give it a go just to see how much rage I can get out of a unit only I care about

I love athena and always build it when i need antiheavy stuff, but i hate that its role as a scout was removed

I think the Athena has no design currently whatsoever.
It proved untenable as the twelfth ploppable factory because of pregame RPS relation to planes.
It proved too cheap and boring as an universal uncounterable scout.
Its current role seems to be merely a tombstone over unwanted features such as Rez and flying factories.

I think it could fit that perceived forgotten terror role better by having more units with obscure mechanics.

So yeah, dominatrix, moderator and their ilk. Or maybe all those crazy experimental units, at double cost, purely for collector value?

athena is great, the only problem with athena is that "some moron" made its decloak radius so fucking large...

revert that and athena is once again a strategic alternative to an all out assults with strider spam...

I think Athena should completely take over the role of strider hubs. They should not lose their current role though. Just add all striders to Athena and get rid of the strider hub. Price is around the same anyway.

The (I'm guessing) edits made to the original post made me lose focus, hard to figure out what was actually intended. I think the athena can be touched up, but I totally lost track of when the post RUrankkmar made turned into a giant edit. I currently like how the lineup has a touch of everything, but I do think any riot would be a bad thing. Imagine riots just spawning in your eco, it was bad enough with raiders, but now RIOTS in your eco.

As for a design I'd like the athena to be a viable fac switch option, but not a plop option. I think it'd be a fantastic option other than strider hub or some other late-game strat, but also as an interesting alternative to the popular 1v1 air switch.

Oh I had this issue where I thought someone else had edited your post. You suddenly changed direction a few times and I totally thought someone else had broken in and messed up your post. In the future I'd recommend giving a rather direct post so silly people like me don't mess it up.
