The game might override the WM settings. Thus, I was playing in window mode all time. note that, you are free to resize the Window while you are playing( I do alt+middle mouse button).

But it depend on the Window Manager /Desktop of your choice. KDE use alt+ right click to resize.

ubuntu gnome
i run in windowed mode, it messes up if u try to resize it

If u run at a shit resolution u should change your desktop resolution to match as u wont be able to see much, other than that it works well

Well one thing I like is alt-tab when in windowed mode it works much faster than in windows fullscreen. Unfortunately you need to use normal window manager also run spring in windowed mode + fullscreen it. I use openbox it automatically on lauch makes spring fullscreen so alt-tab + all multimedia schortcuts works nice. For other wms just make schortcut for fullscreen, KDE kwin is advanced too you probably can make it autofullscreen too. For gnome's metacity it should be harder because everything is so "simple".

Another fine solution if you are tech savvy is to run another xorg server on another tty and run the game there, (you can set default xorg screen/server with some environment var, don't remember which) and you don't really need a WM on that screen, but you can use one if you like. Since the 2 xorgs are separate tty you can easily switch with kernel switch ctrl+alt+Fwhichever. You can make all this into 1 nice bash script that launches xorg -> game(with new default screen) -> closses new xorg. Unfortunately this is a problem with both SDL(the library spring uses) and the game itself, since SDL lets apps full control of input and as such locks away WM from getting any, spring being not the wisest of sorts does not take precautions to let the WM still listen. I once thought about making a dummy SDL lib that would provide the same ABI but do the necessary hooks so that the WM doesnt get pushed out of action (since i dont use linux currently for games, i have not seen this idea through).

FunFact: This is also why SDL is called "Simple DirectMedia Library" Direct being the keyword in this. Irony that its most powerful feature is also its worst feature.

thanks Eximius, that seems a nice solution. but when i playing in fullscreen mode, i sometimes switch to ctrl+alt+Fn, and then could not go back to the game, or only sounds, no graphic. that is the new problem.

Just use fake fulsscreen mode aka maximized window without any decoration. Openbox works just fine with that. I dont even notice that it is window because it maximizes automatically.

just paste this into .config/openbox/rc.xml

code>
application name="spring">
fullscreen>yes< slash fullscreen >
/application>
code>

SAD

Openbox is best non tiling window manager try it. For example in shitty metacity I cant make with mouse wheel scroll up window on top or make clicking wheel on desktop to show up all open windows that makes using 4 desktops such pleasure. openbox rulz!

简单说,只有一个窗口管理器工作。如果要换,就要用覆盖,启动命令变为 openbox --replace
