When giving a unit the command to jump from a Surfboard it doesn't do it. Instead, you see the "firetrail" of the unit jumping (if it has one), and the jump has to be recharged, but the unit stays put on the surfboard.

Should be somewhat easy to fix, I might look into it on the weekend. Made a ticket for now (#278). How Surfboard fits into the game is a different story.

Do you know what that would mean Sprung ... Think about it for a second ;) Skuttleboards might become a thing.. lol!

Skuttle might be prevented from jumping off a surfboard because it's not technically on the ground and only units with visible exhausts can jump from mid-air. Besides, even if it could, then so what? It's probably an inferior method of delivery to Valkyrie drop and you can do that already. Oh, and Skuttle isn't amphibious so you could only jump onto the shore.

But skuttleboarding is an epic name. :'(

so: there is a difference between "jump" (skuttle, sumo) and "boost fly" (pyro, jack)? tell me details plz.

Yes. "Jump" units cannot engage a jump when already midair , while "boost fly" units can. Read: You can newton cannon jacks or pyros over the enemy base and make them "boost fly" to a more precise position. You cannot do the same with skuttle or sumo.

^Trust him, he must know it. He's an archangel!

But archangels jump by jumping, not by jumpjet :|

I actually found this bug by trying to jump with a Recom from Surfboard to Surfboard. A Surfboard can actually catch your com before it touches water. It would be nice if you could set a Surfboard as a target for a jump, regardless of whether the unit is amphibious or not. And maybe allow units like skuttle (and pyro, which deals a significant amount of damage before it even landed?) to jump at enemies from surfboards. Though I suppose, this might be complicated to implement in the game?

Transports being available as jump targets sounds pretty interesting, but I'm not sure of any valid use cases (except Skuttle) and I see a lot of issues being created by this. Enemies as jump targets for Skuttles sounds nice. Skuttle could probably have Smart Unit AI give a jump order onto its target. Jumping onto ships would require changes to the jump gadget though.

Ninja evacuations! Yay! In soviet russia, paratroopers jump INTO the aircraft!

Speaking of ninjas: Surfboard was the way to get Ninja Ducks on open seas. Who knows what other hidden powers remain dormant, waiting for a Ninja Sensei to unlock them?

One use case I thought about was to jump from a Surfboard about to be destroyed to another one at full health (so the unit itself can spend time in the water and so avoid to be shot at by torpedoes or I suppose not being able to be picked up at all by another Surfboard if it's too deep?). Now that I think of it, why couldn't you transfer a unit from one Surfboard to another?

Why would you send an empty, healthy Surfboard to combat? Besides, if the first Surfboard is dying then the jumpie is likely to be dying too. Load orders onto another Surfboard resulting in a transfer would probably be a good thing (because intuitive) but making that is super low priority (non-trivial work for next to no gain) so I don't think anyone is going to do it. The main thing to work on regarding Surfboard is probably the un/loading mechanism because current is terrible (passenger randomly teleports or slides through the air), but Surfboard isn't a core unit of its fac and more of a gimmick, so that isn't really likely to be done anytime soon either.
