One thing I really like about Starcraft II is the way that the divisions/ladders are periodically reset. It allows each 'season' to have winners in various catagories, and it encourages the idea of your skill being persistant but the ladder system being almost a regular tournament that starts afresh every now and then.

Good players on massive elo tend to stagnate when they reach the appropriate level as winning invariably approaches the 50/50.. they then smurf or troll.

We already have a system of periodically awaring players awards for a month for winning the most of a certain award.

Just wondering how people would feel about a the idea periodical reset of elo/ladders, each season of which ends with a main page hall of fame showing the top players of the season and winners of the awards in the same manner as patch releases and tournament results. I think it would solve a few of our longstanding issues that are caused by ladder stagnation (long-absent players returning, top players stagnating because there is nothing left to acheive.

I
think
it
would
be
fun
to
watch
players
elos
and
ladder
positions
reform
from
beginning
every
now
and
again
(
especially
as
it
gets
ever
harder
to
move
around
the
ladder
the
longer
you
play,
as
players
rust
and
no
longer
play
to
their
elo,
and
as
newer
players
become
more
skilled,
the
inflating
elos
of
all
players,
the
ever
growing
gap
between
best
and
worst
players)
.
It
would
also
reduce
quantitive
elo
difference
between
players,
making
for
tighter
ranges/less
situations
where
one
good
player
is
sided
with
a
load
of
noobs
due
to
uber
elo
gap)
.
