1 I think that "Ranged Support Strider" describes Paladin's strongest use-case quite well. Paladin prefers to sit at a range where opposing high-DPS units cannot engage it, and then harass with the big laser and EMP missiles. If a Paladin is doing a large amount of engaging with its lightning sidearms against any serious threats, something is probably going wrong. 1 I think that "Ranged Support Strider" describes Paladin's strongest use-case quite well. 3 At the same time, according to my understanding of the assault role it is reasonable to describe Paladin as an "assault unit", probably as a hybrid with support or artillery. Paladin gets things done because its HP pool allows it to tank anything capable of engaging it at medium-to-long range, not because its weapons are especially powerful in proportion to its cost. Compare to Grizzly. 3 At the same time, according to my understanding of the assault role it is reasonable to describe Paladin as an "assault unit", probably as a hybrid with support or artillery. 5 If a new strider badly wanted the assault-Strider designation I'd be fine with giving Paladin the support icon, though perhaps a unique icon like Detriment would be better. In terms of the Spider analogy, Crab doesn't have the assault designation because Hermit wants it more ( and Crab's effective HP/cost comes with a colossal asterisk) . As it stands, though, I think Paladin having the assault icon is fine. 5 If a new strider badly wanted the assault-Strider designation I'd be fine with giving Paladin the support icon, though perhaps a unique icon like Detriment would be better. Conversely, nothing in Amphbot factory wants the assault designation more than Grizzly does, and Bulkhead/Buoy want the support and skirmisher icons more.
