Idea is nice and intriguing, but you could improve the visual appearance greatly. Gray areas are really dull, you could texture it somehow. Skybox? It could be actually somekinda stadium for example. You could also mark up metal spots better way than small vague green dots for example, with small wwf logos.
Are you familiar with SSMF? Its really easy to learn and you could add a lot of cool things to your map with it...
