Anyone here into competitive/algorithmic programming? If you're from Switzerland or nearby I'd happily invite you to the hc2.

It's organized every year in Lausanne and features problems of all difficulty levels. You have 5 hours to solve as many of these as possible in a team of up to three people. There are small rewards for the winners, but it's mostly just for fun. If you are interested it might be a nice opportunity to meet up.

If anyone is participating in one of the more serious contests(acm icpc, ioi, ..) I would be also interested in hearing about it.

PS: You get free food during the whole contest. ;)

The puns on the poster are enjoyable though!

GBrankTheEloIsALie Everyone can participate, you just need to fulfill this criteria to be eligible for prices. (Prices are things like a Dance Dance Revolution pad, so...)

PS: I've already participated with people that wouldn't fulfill this criteria and taken a price home :P. Your identity/name isn't checked either. As an organizer of similar events myself I also know the organizers pretty well.

Well, unfortunately I'm also leaving for vacation on precisely the 19th (and no, I can't just "not go"). Good luck to you though!

Btw, do you have internet access during the competition?

GBrankTheEloIsALie ok, enjoy your vacation! If you're still interested and you live near the border, there's another one next year.

I've never been to a contest where you do. Online language references are available though(sites like cppreference.com). Ofc you could use your phone to cheat, but don't forget that you have two friends with you.

PS: If anyone of you is still studying, make sure to check out the acm icpc, most universities send a team or two to the regional contests. There the trip will be paid and organized for you. Sadly Germany and Switzerland are in two different regions though, so you'd have to qualify for the world finals.

Well, while I think I have decent algorithmic knowledge/practice, I'm by no means trained for this kind of competition (heck, I'm studying process engineering, not CS). I'd have given this more "casual" one a thought if not for the timing.

I enjoy the occasional challenge, and have led teams to victory in similar events on a federal state wide level, but I'm too overambitious to really go to a competition where I don't think I have a chance at winning anyway. I guess I'm spoiled in that regard.
