Tribes: Ascend or Batman: Arkham City.

Tribes is for when I want some fast-paced gameplay.
Batman for when I want a slower-paced, thoughtful play with some of the best fighting mechanics I've ever seen.

Dwarf Fortress
Aurora 4x

EDIT: up until last month or so, I played Master of Orion 3. Frankly, I don't see why everyone hates on it.

Tsk tsk Harvey.. I am very disappointed.. #coop is where ottd is at! Click me for pix!, Me toooo!!

Not playing much right now. "Space Pirates and Zombies" till it gets boring. There's too much to list anyway. Well, oh and I'm taking my turn at a DF succession game.. or will do so on weekend anyway.

SC2, DF, LoL.

Open TD has some massive balance problems. Coal is the only worthwhile resource until you get your airports set up, and the best thing to do is just to build a single coal transport route that spans from one end of the map to the other: Despite the fact that this is a massively inefficient way to transport coal and there are closer mines, you get more money for transporting over longer distances. Trying to fulfill the subsidies, use any of the industries with longer supply chains (Which simply pay worse AND are harder to set up), transport passengers in trains or heaven forbid, use trucks, buses or boats is simply never worth it. Once you finally get planes, that's when the game becomes really boring, as you no longer need to worry about any kind of infrastructure, just plonk an air port in each city. It becomes one of those 0 player games where the cash just rolls in.

All those ingenious bridges, crossroads, interchanges, shunting stations, regularly spaced accessible depots and complex rail networks you learnt how to build to make your train network run smoothly are totally useless in light of a single one way map-spanning track for coal transport.

@harvey: this looks graphic-wise exactly like the old (first?) transport tycoon. i liked it so much i did play it on virtual machine with win98 when my old win98 laptop died (which i only kept for this game ;) )

Saktoth, you really must be playing bad settings/wrong servers/shit. But I could already tell from the other games you play. :)

Nope, default. The only thing that beats coal is Goods, which require you to support at least one other industry, and have a worse late delivery penalty, or Valuables which always come in very low amounts and have an awful late penalty. Every base material costs at least $10 less. Passengers are -awful-.

Squares traveled are a flat multiplication of your cargo value, while you lose 0.4% of your final price per day late over 7. This means that no matter your speed, you will have to travel for 257 days before you stop gaining profit (0.4% of 250 is 1, wiping out a days worth of profit no matter how fast you traveled). However, the penalty caps at 88%, which is (88/0.4=) 227 days!

There are a lot of other variables here, like the initial cost of track and train. But trains are much more expensive than track, so making several trains that each do a 7 day trip is never going to be as good as making a single long track with one train on it, and adding more trains as income increases.
