When I enable terrain shadows, I often see artifacts near the base of the hill/formation. It seems especially apparent in water. I've tried different settings but haven't been able to correct it. Is there anything I can do on my side to make terrain shadows look better?

No, that's some sort of error in spring's shadow rendering. It's nothing particularly new.

Gotcha. Now I know why CArankAdminShadowfury333 has terrain shadows disabled in his videos. Thanks for your help.

I actually don't. I think what you're seeing is the video compression reducing the colour contrast.

There was an attempt in 2015 to fix shadow acne, but apparently the issue is more entrenched.

CArankAdminShadowfury333, the reason I thought you had terrain shadows disabled was because I saw floating tree shadows in one of your recent casts. The only way I see that is when I have unit shadows on and terrain shadows off.

Oh, wow, you're right. That wasn't intentional, and it should be on in my next videos.

I think the reason that occurs is probably related to the fact that terrain tiles are rendered as individual tiles rather than a solid surface. Shadow acne generally only occurs on lit surfaces, as a result of numerical imprecision causing a surface to appear to shade itself, and not ever in full shadow. This is more likely a case of light leaking through the cracks in the terrain.
