Why?

Can you please stop to tell us how we should play this game with what playerlimits?
Everytime you did so one player left ZeroK forever.

If you like small games join small games, there is a room for that.

How many players do we lose to the 16v16 clusterfuck culture?

I do not know? And I knew that someone will post this question to have the discussion back to the topic. We do not know yet.

Limiting players ( active community ) leads to more players?

AUrankAdminAquanim why don't you stay in small teams room and wait for the good small games with GBrankAdminDeinFreund and CZrankAdminLicho ( sadly I never see you guys there ). Apparently mumble clan made it just by easy open a own small teams room and they just play. Obviously they never complain about cluster games, why they should. If they want small games they just open a room for small games and do not yell at forums against clusters while not playing any small games by themselfes.

Let me guess because you have to stay in teams room ( cluster room ) to play police? How about adding a little break after auto rolling poll after poll after a game ends. There is no possibity to start a kick vote. The room would handle itself. Or allowe no limiting on custom rooms. Why not take the freedom to find out who makes the best room for the community, players go there where they like to play. On custom rooms, room owner can decide whom to kick, if noone is comfortable with that they can join the public rooms or just open own room. I would only see one risk, that there will newbies get kicked too fast. But hey, if we have good players they would not stay in such room because good players want new players to see the game growing.
Game will not grow by limiting a "custom room"...

Limiting custom rooms by maxplayers won't increase the community. Even there is no truth, but why limiting it then?

Is it a custom room...

No it is not a custom room. I cannot set any option I want there on my custom room.

Define "good players". This does not reflect the attitude I have seen from several experienced players.

Citation needed. This applies to most of your post actually.

Since steam start I think the trend is to have fewer and fewer players (reference: https://steamdb.info/app/334920/graphs/). So, I would conclude that the current status is not retaining players but rather loosing player, so something should be done. What exactly is a complex discussion but just saying "leave things as they are" does not seem to result in more players.

"The current status" covers a wide range of conditions between the Steam launch and now.

Also, a significant decline in players after launch is the rule, not the exception, for pretty much all video games.

I was looking at the maximum after it was more or less stable. Sep 9 2018 - 197 players, Oct 14 2018 - 194 players, Nov 3 2018 - 199 players. Seems we are in stable period. And then for next 6 months, maximums are Feb 2 2019 - 166 players, Mar 17 - 2019 - 179 players, Apr 13 2019 - 173 players. This looks like a 13% reduction (averaged the 3 numbers). It could "stabilize" further, but it could also continue the trend.

Yes, effectively they are when it comes to big teams. Being kicked from the singular large game is effectively a ban from zero-k for 5minutes (Due to the nature of 1 room culture). Having one random person with whatever grievances, grudges, etc from being able to bouncer people out of zero-k for an arbitrary reason is not a benefit, nor conductive to an enjoyable environment. Considering the amount of abusive, non explained kick votes, and rapid escalation of issues that is on frequent display in big team games, it is not surprising that custom rooms have been limited.

wow. sounds like big team rooms are source of pure evil. did DeinFreund get kick voted again?
you could apply same to lobby and some mod actions
probably you should make zk singleplayer, no more use of kick polls or evil words like "lame"

These were cited examples of why it is not a good idea to have a singular room with a host that is exercising powers and not why the big teams host should go. If you don't like the reasoning behind the changes, then don't necessitate them to begin with.

Is there something wrong with the two 32 player autohosts such that you feel like you need to host your own? Are they full, is that the problem?

theyve been changed to 16players in the past too.
annoying polls pop up you dont want to join matchmaker instead.
also they dont allow many maps.
id be happy if develobs would let them stay at 32players and stop adding new "features" to decrease big teams rooms
for matchmaker
