My son plays here on ZK too. I wonder if there is any control on the use of profanity and over the top incontinence regarding user names.

For example...

I was always amazed at overprotective parents trying to shield their children from "harmful" society influence by putting them in sand castles
One way or another your kid gonna get exposed, and this tends to happen at younger age nowdays
Recently overheard a conversation of 2nd graders, couldn't believe what they were talking :D

What really matters is to have a supportive parent(s) able to teach them to know place and time, and don't bring this home

pretty sure a name like that would normally get admin'd pretty quickly but ye I agree with pluk, there is no way to shield young children from profanity on internet especially in online games

We do try to clean these up but that doesn't stop more being made, so you are likely to go on seeing them on occasion.

It is probably possible to add some kind of text censoring filter in the client so people can not look at whatever is matched in a config file.

I don't consider myself overprotective (typical statement by an overprotective parent :D) but I do think family values still have a place in our society - even in the gaming community. I agree that placing your child in a sandcastle is useless, but placing them in a sewer is worse parenting.

Thanks for that info AUrankAdminAquanim. Glad to know this is monitored.

Personally, I'd say that the 'lewd' names here are one of the lesser profanities one can experience in an online game. I mean, just listen in to a match of almost any multiplayer FPS game and you'll 'discover' at least a few new combinations of slurs and curses.

My advice (as someone who doesn't have kids so take this with a grain of salt) is to simply talk to your son about the profanity, explain that its a side effect of an open platform and that freedom of speech means anyone is free to say whatever they like but not free of its consequences. The admins moderate as they can but sometimes its gets through and that such names are simply childish. This way you can still reinforce family values without excessively 'sandcastle'ing them.

Every language needs a set of 'curse' words which are 'forbidden' because it allows for the most expressive delivery of a statement. In fact I think that is why every society has a set of bad words and I truly believe they are a necessary part of language. I am not referring to 'F' this or that, I am concerned with the combination of words used to create lewd statements. And in turn, those lewd statements being used as Lobby titles. Pretty simple to understand I think. If not, look at the title of this thread.

It's true it's less so particular words but crude sexual, racial or plain abusive statements, when I see them I think whoa that's a bit much. But to be fair it's rare enough and stopped when possible, also most other games are bigger offenders then zk.
