How well would Zero-K run with:

- Intel i7-9700T
- 16GB ram
- no dedicated graphics card

Very good I'd think. Have you considered a Ryzen with integrated graphics though, e.g. 3400G. Quite a bit cheaper and with a stronger GPU. It depends on your workload though, CPU isn't as strong.

FWIW I'm using Ryzen 2400G on Linux for Zero-K and it seems to work well with the integrated graphics.

Thanks. Do you know what sort of FPS you get in lobster pot games and do you have gfx set to ultra? Are you sure the integrated graphics on this CPU would be enough though? On the steam page for Zero-K it lists a dedicated GPU with 2GB video ram.

The reason I ask is because I am looking to buy a micro form factor desktop. I really like the Dell OptiPlex that I use for work and see that the new Dell OptiPlex 7070 can be purchased with the i7-9700T processor.

I would also be interested in any alternative suggestions for a micro form factor PC good enough to run Zero K with maxed out graphics settings.

I have I7 9700K and I used for encoding/streaming/recording. Two computers at the same time both having a similar processor. No issues as of now except the second computer that has higher temperatures because of my water cooling system.

I will always go for I7 right now but depends on what you need it for. I noticed that from an I5 to an I7 switch in this game it gave me 20% more speed. I didn't test out the new I9 but from what I saw in benchmarks on the internet there is a slight difference between it and the I7 so the extra price doesn't justify it yet.

If you want a good graphics card to solve your "fears" I suggest you go for: XFX Radeon RX 570 RS Black Edition, 8GB, 256-bit
Here is the product code that you find it on internet search: RX-570P8DFD6
I am using this video card and I have no issues with it. It's the best price mid-range video card that you can find on the market.
On Amazon, you can buy it with 175 dollars, and I bought it with 134 because of a special offer from Emag.ro.

Wow... Someone, tell this man about Ryzen.

No, seriously brother, you are three years behind on hardware situaton. Intel right now is just out of the game, it has NOTHING to offer, including single-thread department.

Bullshit as well, 1650S is a much better pick. Brother, your advice has expired reeeallly long ago.

My own piece of advice:

I dont know about your needs in terms of form-factor, but talking pre-built is just not an option for me. If you need a PC, you are better off building it yourself PERIOD. In any case, taking an Intel CPU now would be a COLOSSAL feat of ignorance. Go Ryzen.

Ryzen APUs are quite good bang-for-your-buck for ZK, GPU is not needed at all if you are playing ZK only.

I played on Vega 8 comfortably and all I got from my brand new 1650S is some FPS gains erly-game. Lobsterpot puts a giant strain on CPU so GPU's not a bottleneck in any case.

For ZK 8GB is plenty as well.

zero-k runs like shit no matter what you use, but you won't be able to do much gaming without a dedicated GPU

Forever he's using a laptop. An eGPU setup is possible with some redneck engineering depending. thunderbolt eGPUs enclosures are too expensive, you could rip out the wifi card if it's mPCIe and slot in an mPCIe -> 16x adapter. An alternative (which is likely to work in your case) is to see if your laptop has any m.2 slots, in which case you can get m.2 -> 16x PCIe adapters. Then you need a PSU which is gonna be at least another $40, unless you got one lying around. Along with an rx 570 / 580 you're looking at maybe $200-$250 total.

This is a pretty roundabout guide:

Never really looked. Watching https://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/879774 I'm getting about 10fps at the end. That's with medium graphics settings.

Not enough time to watch that again with low/ultra settings but it definitely made a difference. I suspect ultra would really bog down by end, and low does help a little.

Ryzen 3400G is of course a little faster than my system. But you'd almost certainly have to custom build for a SFF case, https://www.pcgamesn.com/best-mini-pc-build-for-gaming-2020 would be a good place to start.

A dedicated GPU would definitely help as you won't need to share your memory bandwidth between CPU/GPU.

How does an i7-9700 do?
