Compiling spring or obtaining an old one

Hi guys,

I've not been able to lurk/spec/play ZK for ages because of problems getting an old version of spring to work on linux without errors.

I followed the link posted in chat if you join a zk game: http://springrts.com/wiki/Building_Spring_on_Linux

And while I can compile, I can compile and install, etc etc etc, I get an error when starting up ZK. It says I need the map helper utility v1. I look around and find it all in uppercase, I try changing to lowercase and still no go (thought because the error message is lower case that maybe there is a case sensitive issue).

So could someone explain why I have this problem? Also could someone explain how I can have both versions of spring installed (old and new) so I can play mods that depend on the latest build of spring but also play ZK?

I suspect that this is only an issue for me as I'm on Linux and I suspect that the ZK lobby takes care of these problems.

I'm also sure others have resolved this issue because, from memory, others were using linux for zk.

Cheers,

MS.

I was able to download a portable spring archive from here http://files.caspring.org/misc/spring-portable-88.zip

That "portable" is not so portable. At least for me it aint working(segfaults) including everything probably is not best idea. I tried to make lighter version which worked on debian 64 bit my main distro with ia32 libs or smth installed, arch and vector linux 32bit versions vanilla installs did worked too and if I included everything it stoped working.
