Unable to properly launch Zero-K through steam on ubuntu 21.04

I upgraded to the newer version of Ubuntu and tried to run Zero-K. The loading prompt would show up(for steam), then nothing would happen.
I could find the launch script in the task manager, but that was pretty much it.

I tried to launch the game manually which actually worked the first time around, but then it promptly broke on subsequent manual launches.

I figure from the first error that its a missing library problem or some library Zero-K used for debian systems is simply missing from this release. I have not tried running the game on a fresh install of 21.04, but it could possibly not be unique to me.


I did try to verify file integrity, which did show missing files, however this didn't do much in regards to steam. But it does allow me to boot the game manually.

Don't really want to reinstall the game at the moment, that'll take an hour or two for me. Manually starting the game is working just fine thankfully.

I am now more confused than anything, I believe this isn't a problem with Zero-K but I'll just explain what i figured out.

Running steam normally will not let Zero-K boot past the shell script, theres no way to find the output for this without booting steam from the command line. Normally if you do that, it'll automatically stop the output after its initialized, but i did steam --options, and then it printed out whatever it was doing.

Then Zero-K worked when i did this. so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ fuck if i know
