Hello everybody!
I'm new here (as you can see from my noobish rank :P), and I'd like to know if there is a way to play PlanetWars using Linux. I really don't know if the Zero-K lobby would work on Linux, because I'm just getting crazy trying to compile one of the last version of Mono on Ubuntu (which should support .NET 4.0 capabilities). If it would possible to use some kind of script to launch Spring (or a particular configuration of SpringLobby) it would be great.

Also because this mod is FANTASTIC, and strangely run smoothly on my personal crap...err...computer.
However... thanks a lot for your support!

Nothing special needed to play PlanetWars. Since you are in a clan already, just join any host with "PlanetWars" in the name. All the PW stuff can be managed right here on the website.

(You do need to add a clan tag to your name to be able to play, in your case type "/rename [SiBO]dodomorandi" in the lobby)

Welcome and enjoy!

Dont know why you mentioning linux here it is quite easy to launch it. In ubuntu there is ppa spring developers or something like that. And springlobby ppa (dont even remember if it is separate ppa's

Dont know what kind of scripts you are trying to use, but I dont use any scripts just launch game from springlobby.

Zero-k Lobby really needs to be ported to linux.

You cant do somethings in springlobby for zero-k (example setting a max players number for your custom match) also springlobby failed to connect to the server to offen.

In general springlobby wont work to good, (sometimes) so i think we need zero-k lobby for linux.

Easier said than done.

It actually worked on linux a while back by running with mono. But Licho and Quantum decided to drop support because it was holding back development a lot trying to solve the mono bugs, and there was no one else interested in development for linux.

So it is possible, but requires a dedicated developer.

I feel your pain though, I use springlobby on linux also. :(

Do you know what kind of mono bugs were faced?

I don't know what all bugs they encountered, but I know this bug pretty much killed it: http://code.google.com/p/summerspring/issues/detail?id=174&can=1&q=cpu&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Priority%20Owner%20Summary%20Component

I think it's possible that got fixed. But the biggest current obstacle is that the interface by now is mostly WPF, which isn't supported by mono (and no plans to support afaik).

So someone needs to either test out an older lobby version to see how it runs with mono and fix bugs and bring up to date, or test and redo the interface of current version.

Either way it is probably going to be a bit of a chore.

Bug you mention (thank you) was on mono 2.4 - which is petty old now.

WPF is not an problem IMHO. It sucks even on (my) Windows machine.

I will investigate linux port further.

Why not just play with springlobby alittle, make a custom springlobby for ZK, like spring1944, make it so you can set up a match, (using a springie host, instead of relay host) and so we have our lobby. So we dont have to stop playing a whole day just cause springlobby is updating, or it just fails.

A simple lobby dont need to update like spring 1944 (same lobby from like forever) always functional.
