Hi, after having manually replaced the 0.95 executable with 0.96, and also replaced libunitsync.so, somehow my DATADIR path got screwed.

the right path, as indicated in my /home/marco/.config/spring/springsettings.cfg file is:

SpringData = /media/marco/DATA/Archive/Programs/Games/Spring/DATADIR

However, when I download a map, the confirmation message says:

Download complete: /home/marco/.config/spring//maps/deltasiegedry.sd7

Problem is: spring does not find the map in either location (even though it exists in both) and I cannot start any game.

Any hints?

Maybe you have some old settings in ~/.spring that overwrite the new ~/.config/spring settings. I have symlinked ~/.config/spring to ~/.spring so nothing can go wrong ;) (There is also ~/.springrc) Also if SpringData does not work for you, you can symlink the maps directory to somewhere else.

Thanks burp but I have no /.spring or even /.springrc folder. I do have /.config/.spring, /.springsettings and /.springlobby folders tho

Spring has switched away from the "never reach 1.0 versioning" and embraced Chrome/Firefox-style versioning. It is now actually version 96.0

And @[ffc]Killer knows exactly what you meant and is just being a pedant

Burp,

Made two symlinks, .spring and springrc, both pointing to .congig/spring, where there is a maps folder. Still springlobby wont find the maps. When I try to enter a game room I get an error window which says:

You need to download the map to play in this game...

springlobby

That is your problem. Try with ZKL. ZKL handles maps, games, engine versions etc automatically.

Try notalobby. Springlobby is the worst lobby client out here, or at least it used to be. But I really dont think that crashing, constant HDD usage enormous general resource usage and so on are fixed now.

ZKL tends to mess up my configs from time to time + likes to crash rather often.

So I personally use notalloby (it isint perfect either due being closed source). Or you can always use the flobby it is small fast etc.

CHrankThe_Uber_Noob:

just place a symlink from ~/.spring/ to /media/marco/DATA/Archive/Programs/Games/Spring/DATADIR

also version is 96.0!

abma, did exactly that. I now have a ~/.spring symlink whose contents is DATADIR. But springlobby still won't read maps from there. Even when I reset the DATADIR in preferences to ~/.spring...

Gonna try another client :(

I suggest you do not set DATADIR, move the maps directory where you want it to be and symlink it.
