2 I do challenge this part of your argument. Hover and Amph aren't nearly as solid or versatile on land as their land-bound counterparts. 2 I do challenge this part of your argument. Hover and Amph aren't nearly as solid or versatile on land as their land-bound counterparts.

4 Furthermore, on a mixed map, being effective on and from the mountains (like Spider) affects the course of most games much more than being effective on and from water (like Amph and Hover), since firing from heights gives you a huge advantage (as opposed to merely being able to retreat to water). 4 Furthermore, on a mixed map, being effective on and from the mountains (like Spider) affects the course of most games much more than being effective on and from water (like Amph and Hover), since firing from heights gives you a huge advantage (as opposed to merely being able to retreat to water).

7 [quote]In my experience Amph generally beats Cloaky by a solid margin. That is, you can win Cloaky vs Amph, but you'll be fighting at a disadvantage, much like if you play Spider vs Cloaky on a large enough flat map. 8 Amph vs. Cloaky is IMO an anomaly in the general pattern ( caused largely by Glaive's utterly awful matchup against Duck) . As far as I know Shield has a favourable matchup against Amph. I am unsure about Jump vs. Amph, though I don't see what Amph could possibly do against Placeholders. 8 Amph vs. Cloaky is IMO an anomaly in the general pattern ( caused largely by Glaive's utterly awful matchup against Duck) . The matchup probably gets rough around about the Grizzly stage, but at that point you can switch anyway.
