How I feel about hacksaws is less about how bad it is and more about how much more manageable it seems - as an air player - compared to other AAs.

I know this is isn't a priority, and GF has said he doesn't want to mess things up with this, but I would personally prefer if it was more viable to start with plane fac, or at least less of a slippery slope. It seems like you either dominate in the first few minutes, or they get AA up and it's now a hard-counter to all air.

I think one of the biggest reasons for this is that even though planes have absolutely amazing support units, some of the best in the game (Thunderbird, Owl, Swift), on their own they basically only have the raven for dealing damage to ground. The Raven is great, but only optimal vs. specific ranges of health/cost units, which doesn't include Razors or certain mobile AAs. Both on paper and having tested it ingame, it seems to me like Phoenix and Likho are much worse than Ravens in most situations. Even if we buffed Phoenix and Likho, that still gives them only 3 units that can damage ground, compared to every other fac (even gunships) having at least 6.

Another thing I think that contributes to this is the semi-turn-based nature of air battles that can give the player in the lead even more one-sided victories. Which is actually kinda cool because real life is exactly like this, too. First, AA get a chance to fire on non-stealth bombers via radar. Then Bombers drop payload. Then surviving AA gets to fire on all retreating bombers.

Speaking of this, why the hell don't we have stealth bombers that just radar jam themselves (radius 1 elmo)? It's exactly like real life and a great mechanic. :D
