[q]I see two areas ZK could benefit from new units though: in the water and in the late game. Water is unpopular in the lobpot, and seems repetitive. Late-stage lobpot is dominated by a short list of stuff from the strider hub, or immobile things.[/q]

While I do agree (as most all ZK players do) that sea sucks, I would rather see changes to existing units rather than adding new units. AFAIK there's kind of a general rule that it's better to keep some degree of familiarity when making changes rather than just reworking or replacing something completely. I am also of the opinion that water meta in ZK is very underdeveloped and should see more work put into it on the player side, but I think there's definitely more than one factor that's culminating in "sea bad."

Also, this is neonsturm-level take I'm about to throw, but I think strider hub is bad, unhealthy for the game, and should be removed. IMHO, we should just scale units in their respective factories up to a higher level, but I think the absolutely power scaling that strider hubs put into team games is silly. Focus of RTS games should be on micro with large scale armies late game and using strategy and cooperating with teammates in order to make macro effective rather than sending one Swiss army knife unit out into the field and that being that.

I'm actually going to make a new thread about this topic because we have thus far derailed from BAR discussion.
