This "lag" was not maliciously created by any user. I've concluded that the lag experienced here was a result of a lua error spam with a lot of people in game.

[Spoiler]

What ends up happening is that when someone encounters an error, it sends it to everyone (without rate limit too!). This causes bad things when there's 40 people encountering a lua error and sending it to 39 other people.

I'm not keen to entirely roll back the version on an engine update without consulting an active gamedev, so as an interim measure I have disabled Starlight in the teams, FFA and co-op autohosts. (EDIT: Apparently this also affects DRP and Bertha.)

Looking into a hotfix patch. (EDIT: Deploying now.)

Interestingly, at least 4 people (Majo, Yunary, inf and czesio) lagged out BEFORE the lua errors.

And indeed, when running the replay my own laptop is already lagging to 0.9 at various points before the 21 minute mark and slows down to 0.7 near the point the starlight comes up.

I think its related to terraforming since is used to cause lag spikes in games when you uncover them while exploring. Since starlight creates tons of lines when moving the laser, I think it might be possible to be the causality?
