It seems bizarre that only admins and top50 players know their elo. Since it was made private to prevent noob bashing there has been no change in the amount of noob bashing and a lot of complaints from people who want to know their elo. It's already visible ingame with the deluxe player list, not having it visible on the site is just an inconvenience. It should at least be optional to make your elo public (preferably default on), and everyone should be able to see their own elo.

Who decides this? btw?

Us players and voters decide. The poll option with the least votes gets picked by devs, so this is entirely our fault.

I support the idea of making the number visible on the site as well because elo based icons are already used.

For the ones who don't want to start a battle with someone just to see his elons you can go to "server" in zkl and search for the username.

many ways? It is only possible via deluxe player list (which isn't activated by default)

elo can lower your self-esteem and generate pressure.
I can imagine 2 case:
1) If someone has high-elo and keep loosing a team game... he will feel that he don't deserve the elo. Actually its not his fault! its the balancer.
2) If someone has low-elo and keep loosing... he will feel he's a looser. Actually its just a game, nobody should judge a person by his elo!

If elo is a "secret" (or only visible indirectly), then that person won't feel the pressure of being judge as strongly.

Not having elo visible can also demotivate you and make you troll and also not having elo visible also makes you lack the feeling of progression which could increase player activity since the player can improve their elo and they keep playing.

Lastly trolling and casual gameplay will happen because people will not know of the existence of elo and this will make those who do know about elo rage at those who do stupid things or do not put in 100% to win.

So its important to allow players to know of the existence of elo and it should be their choice to display or know their own elo.

It might be that elo doesn't plays such an important role on the self-esteem as previously thought. It could be a lot simpler actually!

Let imagine two cases too
1) If someone has high-elo and keep loosing a team game... he will feel he played too bad and will try to play better and analyse his tactic why he lost.
2) If someone has low-elo and keep loosing... he will think how others get kinda high elo, how do they play different. I can see my process on the elo value.

If elo is a "secret" (or only visible indirectly), then that person hasn't an helpful indicator and he maybe puts less effort in his gaming or in his learning process.

~3/4 of community wants elo visible, where is the point for polls?
Is that NSA-style just to gather data who doesn't agree with devs opinion? I understand if they don't decide game balance decisions based on community polls. But elo is kinda an feature and ín my opinion such features should be decided by community.

Top50 cannot see other people elo.

Elo is not meant to be visible for non-admins.

That is the problem. Restricting information to admins that isn't directly related to administrative tasks doesn't make sense.

Yeah, nobody ever checks Deluxe Player List and the soldier/napoleon icons. In civilised countries people don't look at classified information.

Elo currently performs two functions:
- enforces balance for teamgames
- provides epeen measuring service for top50

Since 1v1 elo is not functional for balance purposes, it makes sense for 1v1 elo to always be visible, providing everyone with 1v1 epeen at no cost.

"Rages at noobs" also is not going to happen in 1v1.

Because there is no way to turn off elo recording in 1v1 it puts huge pressure, there is no way to "practice". Unless there is a way to play clearly marked "unranked" games it makes sense to hide 1v1 elo.

Btw elo in ZK was never meant as a ladder, it's only purpose was balancing. I was even against adding 1v1 elo (because it has no use for balancing) and wanted to instead have single hidden elo rating.

There are better and more fun ways to make ladders than with "always on" elo.

1) This option exists: !setoptions noelo=1
2) Unranked hosts can be deployed with a single SQL statement :P
3) Alternatively, Elerium could be noelo and a special ranking ladder host could be deployed.
