The summer is nearing its end (at least in northern hemisphere) and with that setting sun this month's tournament will be held in theme of tropics on a Saturday of August 29th at 12:00 UTC, that is a bit later that the usual (all for our dear American players of course). Keep in mind that the tournament will be held by PLrankOrfelius and I am just a blind and deaf relay for his words.

Tournament format and rules:
- Double elimination
- Random seeding
- First map of each round is predetermined. The losing team will suggest the next map that is featured for teams.
- All winners bracket games will be best of 3 (including finals). All losers bracket games will be best of 1 with the exception of the losers finals (bo3).
- Due to semi-late announcement of the tourney the registration will be available until one hour before the tourney will start.
- It is possible to substitute for players who don't show up. If you have signed up, make sure to show up on time. Those who fail to show up will likely be subbed out by 12:30 UTC.
- The players coming first, second and third will receive special unique collectible awards to their player profile, and receive tournament points which will at the year's end determine the year's altogether best tournament player.

The tourney will also feature a FFA map which was included due to shuffle option being implemented into the server allowing randomizing positions of the starting positions.

Map pool:

Round 1: Aquatic Divide
Round 2 & losers round 1: Conquest of Paradise
Round 3 and losers round 2: Sands of Time
Semifinals & losers finals: Ternion
Finals: Tropical

The bracket can be seen here.

Grab your partner, sign up in the comments and we will see you this Saturday.

How will the start position shuffle work? Will players be able to see their own real/final starting location before placing to set up their queue properly?

Yes, players see their own real/final position.

I see you havent been to the FFA room for very long, Skasi.

The old shuffle=all is gone. Starting in a position picked by someone else is no more.

The new version shuffles the players' boxes before the gamestart, so the box you see is the box you start in. There are 2 shuffle options - shuffle and allshuffle. The former only picks from boxes which would be occupied normally (so boxes 1-7 for a 7-way FFA), the latter picks from all boxes on the map. This makes it possible to use Starcraft's 1v1 map format, with 4 possible startpositions.

Oh gosh! But we also nee to be able to force symmetry! Like, to randomize maps with N vs S xor E vs W starting locations. Oh wait that's all kinda off topic.. alright:

Will losers be able to pick featured FFA maps then?

Skasi most FFA maps have rotational symmetry.

Randomising for "NvS xor EvW" is not possible currently though. An API to let custom boxes be defined would be pretty nifty though, and not that hard.

Crap, that start time is rather late. I can cast for a few hours, but I need to be off for something after about 3.5 hours from tournament start.

Given that Aquatic Divide is map 1, that will probably mean casting halfway into Quarterfinals.

Late? The whole point of it was so among others you would not have to wake up very early just to cast the tournament. Considering that you CArankAdminShadowfury333 are a permanent 'participant' of the tourney I suppose the start time could be offset by 2 hours back and get back to usual monthly 10 (AM) UTC.
What do you think?

Normally you'd be right, PLrankOrfelius, it's actually a complete fluke for that weekend. I happen to have an improv workshop (new hobby of mine since last October. Also why I changed my streaming schedule 6 months ago) scheduled that day which I signed up for about a month ago, and I figured the tournament would start early enough (i.e. at its usual time) to allow for that. Normally workshops like this (when they happen, which isn't often) start at 1PM PDT (8PM UTC), this one just happens to be longer and starts at 10AM PDT (5PM UTC) instead.

Pretty much every other month starting at noon UTC would be appreciated (though I would be concerned for the Australian players near the finals), this is a one-off.

AUrankAdminAquanim and I might not make it. Don't be surprised if we are not there and we'll try to say something more definite closer to the time.

Zomg only three teams! Free bronze medal, weeee~

Maybe you would have had more participants if it was 2vs2 with randomly assigned players (possibly elo-based) instead of fixed teams?

Anyway, if anyone want to team up with me, I'm up for it (only 1 hour and 6 minues left for registration as of now?)

I suck though... but I'm also willing to listen!

(I have a microphone and in this case am willing to use it - through mumble/skype/whatever...)
