Mobility vs. porc is a sliding scale that is adjusted based on the amount of free space and potential expansion on the map, and the power of the armies on each side.
What this means is that:
- On small maps porc will happen.
- On maps with chokes porc will happen
- When there are lots of players on each team porc will happen very early in the game
and that
- on large open maps porcing players will die slow
- on maps where opponents can see your porc and expand aggressively in response, porcing players will die slow
- in 1v1 porc may happen, but usually not to the exclusion of raids
Other things to think about:
[Spoiler]
People that don't have the APM to manage their units often rely more on porc just to make the game easier
- low elo has more porc
Particular factories require the use of 'neutral' options such as static to cover weaknesses
- HT factory often needs more light defenses
- Spider factory often relies on weaver building lotus to kills venom-stunned targets
- Jumpjet usually needs more statics to reliably make use of their powerful constructors and units
Particular factories have weaknesses to specific statics:
- 2x defender kills a pyro
- 2x defender kills three glaives
- 1x defender kills swift
- duck and dagger have difficulty attacking into lotus
A big part of playing higher level games is eating other people's early porc with your commander and counter-porc
- if one person starts building central defenders, the opposing commander often assaults while building lotus in order to counter, which while looking like a silly porc war, is a way to punish aggressive porc reliably.
If you want to beat porc in 1v1, learn to play with radar and raiders instead of porc. This will facilitate a greater rate of expansion which you can then use to take the mid-late game off any overly porcing player.
