Im planning to buy a car soon, and since thats gonna be a large (at least for me) sum of money, Im asking whoever I can (you cant rely on polish car forums at all, especially the BMW one, duh [Spoiler] )

Has anyone any experience with BMW 1series, coupe version, 2.0 diesel, 177hp version, models 2007-09?
Worth going for? Going to cover in rust soon after I leave the dealership? Engine will explode if I reach 75kmph?

Thx for any tips in advance.

Wut? Fossils?? It's 2017.. Get EV .. I would go for Hyundai Ioniq Electric .. or.. if you need massive range Chevrolet Bolt (Opel Ampera-E in europe)

Grab it with some massive subsidies from some EU state, save 2000€ on fuel, profit!

Idk man, but you should totally get one of these:
HornBlasters Conductor's Special Model 540 Train Horn Kit
[Spoiler]
It's made for trains, but I'm sure it'll fit in your car as well.

EV are better but no second-hand market yet, unfortunately.

I have no experience with BMW sorry, but i have a audi diesel 2.0 TDI and it is reliable, very economic, but it smells bad (like all diesel probably). And it also makes a tractor-like noise.

Tractor like noises? What year is it?
I mean, I know diesels used to sound tractorish, but all euro5 diesels ive heard personaly sound more like petrol engines, maybe except when its idling.

Well, I guess i'll just go for it, gonna regret later ^^

I cannot help you here. I got cars and a motorcycle but I got people to fix and maintain them. Maybe USrankAdminCarRepairer can get more serious data, as by definition he seems to know things, shit and stuff.

It's 2006 model but 200'000 km. After some mileage, the neat insulation gets a little loose and the tractor sounds can again be heard.

Well, ive found a sweet beemo, but unfortunately its way over 300k (because the dealer says its 240, and if dealer in Poland says a car is 240k, it means it has much more. I just wonder how could one do that much mileage in a tiny coupe in less than 8 years...

My work colleague owns a BMW 320i with diesel engine.
Do not ask me about displacement and I do not know whether this information is interesting for your model.
But after about 120 thousand kilometers the control chain torn.
The consequence was a capital engine damage.
Since my colleague had bought the car as a new car and had carried out all the inspections at the dealership,
BMW was halfway involved in the new engine.
Instead of 7000 euros my colleague "only" 3500 euros had to pay.
Now he had gone down the hundred thousand kilometers again,
and he was called to the workshop to exchange the steering-chain rails.

If you go for 3.5L petrol you should have no problems taking one with 200000 km, engine wise, the bigger ones usually handle it well ;) I bought mine two years ago, (now 6 years old) with 205000km.

not going to. Just wondering why would one buy a Tiny coupe to do 40k a year... Saloon seems more reasonable to me...

DErankXivender ive heard about this problem with 2006+ BMW diesel engines, fortunately it was fixed in 2008+ models afaik, plus bmw annouced in 2015 that if your car Has this engine you are free to come and have a free inspection and replacement if needed. (Once per car ofc)

@burp you wouldnt buy a 3.5l if u had to pay 5 euro for a liter of gas... >.<

Hybrid??
These are pure EV, just like Tesla.. no gasoline, no oil, no gearbox, no tailpipe .

And tbh old BMW sounds something like conservative 50s people would buy :)

And sure its a bigger investment than 10 year old BMW but depending on how much you drive it can be cost efficient in relatively short time (also because you can expect ~ 0 costs in maintenance and repairs) + nothing beats 1€ per 100km (or 0 if you charge from photovoltaics).

Maybe you can rent some cheaply? I got EV rented (operating lease) .

Sounds great and everything, except for one thing. I live in south-east Poland.... I have literaly NEVER seen an electric car charging point... And Im not going to limit myself to 35kilometers around my house. Ill stick to traditional dirty, smelly, and noisy cars...
