Zero-K's first Biweekly tournament will be happening this friday evening at 8PM UTC (4 PM EDT).

Everything is now posted (including a new and updated ruleset, and cleaner self managed brackets) at:

https://smash.gg/tournament/zero-k-showdown-1-biweekly-tournament

Signup at that site, not here.

You will need a smash.gg account to signup.

Things will start rolling and people need to show up around 7:45pm/3:45pm respectively.

Also the devs over at smash.gg have actually started working on inbuilt support for chobby. Big thanks to them for all of this.

Ask any questions improvements you have in the comments.

I'll grant that I haven't been casting much ZK recently, but I'm not available for this.

Can you elaborate?

Just to test the feasibility I've already set up a system to automatically spawn bots that'll create tournament rooms and invite players, but don't have it integrated with any online tournament tracker.

PS: I'll be offline that day.

Basically they're working on coding a system that works like this:

Both players check into the match on smash.gg dashboard.

dashboard says player 1 create room.
It also displays a field to put in room name and password.

Player two, once it sees this, joins room.

then, when both players finish, they can mark how the match went.

It may possibly include putting in a match number/map but I'm not sure, all they offered for me at the moment is a custom field for ZK username.

Wait. Does that mean i need a steam-account to enter the tournament?

No DErankkatastrophe, all you need is a smash.gg account (which is free)
You signup at the link provided above.

Also, I may have forgot to say this, but I'm not running the tournament unless 4 people sign up.

If you do not wish to sign up through the site post below and I will add you.

I post this comment to disrupt the chain of Qrows' posts because I think that its sad to see him post in the same thread multiple times to just have more people sign up for the tournament.

On another note: I think that one of the reasons that people are not interested in the tourney is that basically nobody plays 1v1s anymore.

I guess UTC stands for United Kingdom.

You can count me in for the tournament.

Orfelius wants to play too by the way, count him in too. ;)

It's good to announce events at least before their preceding weekend (as opposed to Sunday evening) so that people have a chance to see it. Also, relevant.

8PM UTC (4 PM UTC)

You incorrectly used UTC for both in the ZK post. I went to your smash.gg tourney page and it says "8 PM UTC, 4 PM EST". This is also incorrect because EST is UTC-0500. Presumably you mean EDT (the daylight saving version of EST which is being observed now) which is UTC-0400. Figure things out and update your posts.

Does this work in Chobby?

quote:
All games are double elimination. All matches that aren't -final will be Bo3.

You seem to use "match" as a "set of games" so "games are double elimination" makes no sense. Presumably the tournament is double elimination.

Why Obsidian 1.3 when there's already 1.5? Why the inconsistent specification (no version for Desert Needle, no full CCR)? Also, line breaks.

Who bans first is decided by a coin flip/RPS.

Who decides between coinflip vs RPS? Who flips the coin and how do you ensure it is fair? How do you make sure the RPS is simultaneous?

quote:
Winner bans two, then loser bans two. Process repeats until there are three maps left. Winner then picks a map out of the three remaining.

For future games within that set winner bans three maps and loser picks from remaining maps.

If first map is picked from a pool of 3, the winner banning 3 for the second pick results in a pool of 0. Does the pool go back to the original 18 (so the loser picks from 15)? If so, what's the point of the firstpicker banning anything in the first pick if the other guy doesnt even get to pick before the pool resets?

Hang on, when actually is the tournament? I thought 8PM UTC meant 6AM here so decided to skip it and booked up my time with other activities.

Regular tournaments seem too troublesome to organize and participate in. Players' age groups and time zones are too spread out.

If the idea is to have more people regularly playing 1v1, I'd improve the ways for people to call more players to their custom games without having to ask through the chat (even if they generate chat messages, like /promote), or to join the matchmaker.

ZK has matchmaker and 1v1 ladder, why not try to incentivize people to play more of it? There could be awards given to whoever holds the top positions at the end of each month.

Its a bi weekly, I don't expect that many people to show up for the first one anyways. Also, I've never seen anyone ever write dates like that, which is probably why I don't.

Fixed in a while also.

If you type those maps without version specification in lobby it will autopull latest version. I've specified for many of them because those were the last versions that I tested and found relatively bug free. I have no idea if new versions have bugs or not, which is the reason they are listed as such.

I'll fix this part in time for the next one. This is the first freaking tournament and I already have people picking the damn ruleset apart, jesus.

Yeah, i thought that was kinda understood but I'll go fix in a while.

Also Orf and Anir are getting signed up, I need one more to run tournament.

If this goes well I'd recommend making it more of a league format, where every week you get some amount of "league points" for standings (likely in a swiss format), and the highest 8 or so do a final bracket tournament. This sort of thing would take time to build momentum, but if pushed right would help 1v1 play become more popular.

Also, date formats like 2017/09/08 are pretty standard in computer stuff (they are the easiest to sort. Also, the ISO standard cited in the linked comic allows for separators other than '-') and fairly clear. Even if it is unfamiliar to you, it's clearest to everyone else.

I'm with Sprung on this one. A consistent format for map names is much friendlier than a weird mix, especially since there aren't line breaks or a proper list format (at least on Firefox). I get that some maps are unversioned, and for those ones not having a version number at the end makes sense, but as long as the name format is consistent and all the names can be copy/pasted into the "/map" command, it will work. Also, specifying version has the added benefit of making any archival reviewing of earlier tournament rulesets and mapsets easier.

It's your fourth tournament (at least). Also, people will pick the ruleset apart, since clarity in rulesets is paramount to running a tournament smoothly.

I think we should simply have short, sweet tournaments, without thinking much about occurance frequency.
I liked the one that was organized by Aquanim, and think we should have more of that.

nice to see this given a go, bit late notice initially, ill try to get up at 6am saturday to participate.

as for chobby intergration, im sure things have been discussed..but maybe a small "countdown to next tourney: 1 day 03mins" block? ..or something... maybe goes red and flashes with a few hours to go...Just something to remind people, with link to signup, thread etc

+1 give me all your Kudos.

Some kind of rewards for regular/active mm play sound like a good idea.

4hundred is signed up, looks like we will have tournament (although if the tournament is at 4PM edt it should be 9PM UTC+0)

Also isn't the MM reward kinda being on the ladder?

I have a league idea but it isn't quite finalized yet.
