1. Player concerns aren't ignored, but there is a disagreement in needs. Devs think original names are a requirement, and I can see why. 2. I'm sure you'll manage to remember the new names after a while, and in a few years you'll get totally used to them. 4. (Other) plans to increase userbase aren't relevant to this discussion. Renames are considered to be one (imo minor) way to improve the game, and with many other Steam preparation steps are generally just good to make ZK better as a whole, even for non-Steam users.

Unit renaming is annoying, but if developers implement it I assume that is for a good reason. At least I hope no more renaming will be necessary in a long time.

well, I think zero k is a big game. I have more than 100 games in the steam library purchased and ... play zero k game. I will never end up being thankful to googlefrog and company for having reborn again and better total annihilation. So, it's not important if the drives change name, but it's important that the game is fun for the player.

Why did Flea and Pyro not get renamed, those are TA unit names too?

I just thought about one thing that could go wrong with newbies: resign votes. In custom rooms, we know how to handle resign votes but if many new players start a matchmaker game, some of them could troll with resign votes and that could reflect badly on the game for new players..

Resign exists to recycle people in a room into the next game faster so is not needed in MM.

People in MM cannot end the game earlier?

Wait, campaign is actually happening... I never thought I'd see the day, but holy shit that's fantastic news! Just a question, is there the potential for allowing co-op play in some campaign missions? I know that's something a lot of games are missing, and I really like cruising through some cool campaign stuff with a friend to make the whole thing better. I understand if the focus is on single player (as it probably should be), but I think it'd be cool to pull some of my friends into the campaign without throwing them in solo.

People in MM can just leave the game and queue for another match right away. People in rooms can just leave the game and seed another room right away, too, but due to various social dynamics there is never more than one room.

Ok but my question was: if people in team MM want to end the game when it's clear they have lost, how can they do? Must they individually leave the game and return to lobby?

Not yet, but it is certainly something we would like to do. It's likely to be comshare style, since most-to-all of the missions would need to be drastically redesigned to account for multiple coms/bases/etc.

Pyro is actually named after the class in TF2 (i.e. it is so generic and fitting I felt it was safe to leave as is). Flea is similar andI did not expect to come up with a good name for it. Another surviving unit is Pheonix, but the TA Pheonix was an ordinary, non-fire, bomber so they are the ones that have to a-temporarily justify the name to us. quote: I never thought I'd see the day, but holy shit that's fantastic news! We're aiming to make a direct hosting system where you can invite friends through steam. This would have an arbitrary number of people commshare in campaign missions. This is also doable for singleplayer skirmish, in this case there may be no commshare involved. quote: I just thought about one thing that could go wrong with newbies: resign votes. I don't see how this could go any more wrong than other forms of trolling. Resign is within the F10 menu and is already next to ordinary resign and exit. Resign exists in MM, don't get the wrong idea from Sprung.

As GoogleFrog said, resign exists in MM (and this won't change in the foreseeable future). However, you can also just leave. This way the people who voted !n are not forced out of the match. Looking at other games I think people getting tilted and doing premature resigns are going to be more of a problem in the future than lobsters fighting until the last solar.
