They have better hp/cost and dps/cost than Minotaurs and in addition to all that they can build/reclaim at great speed.

4 Welders cost 800, have combined 8000 hp, 180 dps and 30 buildpower.
1 Minotaur costs 850, has 6800 hp and 160 dps.

its the aoe and burst that makes minotaur good also its aa and better range + wielders loose dps as they die off.. they are strong so i agree they are very strong and build power is also always op.. because reclaiming is like doing extra dps

Uhmmm maybe i sould try out fighting some Welder only lobpot games... kinda interested how itll turn out.. maybe if i use storages to insta bulid some porc between... gotta try it before Welder get nerfed, last call 4 that kind of fun :)

Thy unknownrankTinySpider for that idea :D

Most builders have pretty good stats for cost, and great stats don't necessarily translate to great fighting power. the range and individual damage of welders is shite. Their BP for cost isn't the best and there is an inherent disadvantage to a factory whose builder is among the most expensive.

Also, I have seen tower-push strats pulled off with other builders, more so than welder. Funnelweb is probably the main culprit of that type of strategy.

Uhh, no they really don't... Few AOE attacks and Welder army ded.

No they do not, only shield bot constructor is slightly better in terms of effective hp/cost but it's slower and has no dps. Other constructors melt when caught. I'm sure I don't have to post replays of the daily welder spam that permeates every other team game, any regular player has seen it. It's the safest early frontal unit, it will make cost just by being a survivable constructor on the front. All dps it does is a bonus. It can fend off raiders easily and retreat behind the creeping turret line it creates if it gets damaged, since it has a big health buffer to react to any danger.

I don't see the relation to what's being discussed. It's a strider, a completely different class of unit.

Nerf them all

I agree that welderspam is pretty darn strong. But their distributed hp means they are vulnerable to AoE attacks that Minotaur is not. roaches do nothing to minos but they will ruin welders. stuff like artillery is also useful vs welders and especially likho. That said, when welders are mixed with minos and ogres they really become bullshit. *waves at GrandorCZ*

Other constructors melt when caught but are also hella cheaper, in addition to having some pretty strong abilities such as cloaking, jumping, etc, and better BP for cost. The're good units but I don't think the're OP stats-wise.

Godde used to do some great welder/turret starts that gave them a huge early economy advantage. they were great to watch.

Minotaurs still are larger range and its faster.
However I agree that welder is very strong for it cost. Big welder balls hard to stop in porcpush. 2k hp isn't joke with blaster sidearm.

Just reduce health by a bit so I can bomb them easily with Likho

Worker HP per unit metal goes like:
convict = 14 (counting shields)
welder = 10
mason = 8.33
quill = 7.38
mariner = 7
weaver = 5.76
conch = 5.67
conjurer = 5
constable = 3.93
wasp = 3.54
crane = 1.3

Convicts, welders, masons, mariners, and conchs have better hp for cost than their corresponding assault units.

plox buff crane hp, if you have several stacked they die in 1 shot from a lot of AA units.

Firepluk
It's all good and juicy until enemy Lichoes your whole welder ball or you get particularly unlucky and catch a couple of BB projectiles(or first you get Lichoed and then while running away you also catch BB on the remnants of past glory which called a welderball) :D

[Spoiler]

Usually by the time you got a nice cluster of welders your enemy has either Licho or BB or both(super dead)

Don't get me started on cloaked roaches/skittles either, heck even a lucky scylla shot and you can say bye bye to that juicy welderball rushing a desolator... :P

Those troll strats work only vs total nubs in lobster pots who have no clue what to do

I feel like crane's speed isn't worth their terrible stats and being vulnerable to AA. Flying is a double edged sword for builders because it opens them up to AA. So ye buff.

Then again, not much sets crane and wasp apart other than health and speed. Reducing crane's cost might be a better solution as it will make the units more different, rather than less.

Crane is basically a fast gunship, so its a bit out of place in airfac I think.

Could it not be a bomber?
You reload on metal bombs(supply drop?) at the pad and then drop a bomb of metal to build things? Could use multiple to build things quickly.

That's an interesting idea. Maybe it could be a caretaker bomber, including the ability to start nano-frames for the caretakers it bombs. It would give you the ability to rapidly deploy high ground-based BP to an area.

So 1 Minotaur will lose a fight VS 4 Welders ? Im doubting this. Packed or not, 4 Welders will lose agaisnt a single Minotaur

This sounds testable! Lets take a look.

That's pretty close! What happens if the welders are allowed to repair each other?

Hmm. That's not that different. What happens if we let the welders use their "lotus sidearm" meme?

That's a bit more compelling. Despite messing up focus fire on the side of the Minotaur by letting its unit AI derp around, the result still seems pretty clear. Of course, this scenario does bring quite a lot more metal to bear on the side of the Welders, so this is more of a tempo scenario than an efficiency one.

What else could be worth testing?
