How do I rank up faster in 1v1? (First time playing PvP regularly)

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently started playing 1v1 more consistently for the first time. I’ve got around 300 hours on Steam, but almost all of that was singleplayer, sandboxing, and messing around with units. Because of that, I feel like I understand the game pretty well mechanically, but my actual ladder rank is still really low.

That sometimes leads to people thinking I’m a smurf, which isn’t the case at all — I just never played PvP until now.

So my question is: what’s the fastest way to improve and climb in Zero‑K 1v1?
Are there specific habits, build orders, or replay review routines that help new ladder players rank up more quickly? I’m already trying to play a few matches every day, but I’m not sure if I’m focusing on the right things.

Any advice from experienced 1v1 players would be appreciated.

Is "people" actually people (plural), or is it just KingLx25x? Because that guy just does that to everyone he loses to. He's been disciplined for doing that in the past, promised to be better, and evidently has not actually been better.

Watch what top 10 players on the ladder do, copy what they do. One subtlety to pay attention to that might not be immediately clear is unit states; most of us have very customized default unit states (in-game settings -> unit behavior -> default states) like having constructors at higher priority than factories, certain units on hold position, certain units on a different selection group than the regular army group (3), certain units with "ignore bad targets" state turned to low or medium, or fire at radar turned off (super important for phantom and lance).

Play against people who are slightly better than you, then reflect on how the match turned out the way it did. That is a piece of advice I hear in almost any game, physical or electronic.

Find someone way better then you to practice against. Lose alot of games then player other pple.

You will notice it is way easier to fight them then and adapt :p

Improve your micro, especially raider micro. Good raiding skills can easily get you into top 20. Playing against good players and gaining experience is the best way to do this.

KingLx25x You're the only person I've seen accuse someone of being a smurf in 1v1 in months, you do it constantly, this isn't even the first time someone's mentioned being accused of being a smurf as a general thing when it was in fact just you who was accusing them, and I made a point to check if you'd specifically accused superfkawe of being one before I made that comment... and what do you know, you did in fact accuse them of being one. No one else in this community has this issue over 1v1s, it's literally just you. You're being called out because you're the only one causing this problem.

You seem to be under the impression that all players come into this game with the same background as you and learn at the same rate as you. This isn't the case. Some have zero RTS experience and are hopping into multiplayer before doing anything with the game. Some have a ton of experience in BAR, SupCom, or PA before coming here. Some spend many hours in single player gamemodes before playing any multiplayer. New players come in motley forms and will play in many directions at many different skill levels. Stop the smurf accusations when you, someone whose rating is only 200 above the 1500 that new players start with, take a loss to someone who has less hours in the game than you. In superfkawe's case it's especially a crazy accusation since it's literally been twice as long since he started playing than it has since you started playing.
