Hi All,

Fightorder labs is pleased to present the Alpha version of our new lobby client, Shiro.

Shiro is an all new, lightweight lobby primarily built on Tauri and designed specifically for Zero-K and its community. We designed and tested it from the ground up primarily focusing on main lobby features that Zero-K already has but in a more simplified and clean format, and then also worked on adding functionality that was originally separate on the website into the lobby client.

Small disclaimer: We made this for the benefit of community and also just to see what another client with more functionality could look like. We will make attempts to maintain this project, but we still recommend using the official client if you aren't looking to use something that could be considered experimental. Also, you will need to DM or ask the admins for a lobby password if you haven't set one.

Additionally, we apologize, but our program is not signed, so if you use Windows, you may get a prompt while installing. We ensure you our software is safe (you can inspect our code freely on the github as well). If there is sufficient interest/sponsors I may look at getting it signed.

It features several improvements and features:

  • Shiro is a dual-mode lobby - it can either function as a frontend to your existing steam install if you just want to use its added functionality, or install Zero-K by itself and run things independently.

Battle Room Viewer.

  • Shiro is incredibly small. The installer sits at around 5mb, even on Linux.

  • ...by the way, both Linux and Windows are supported.

  • Shiro additionally uses almost no system resources by itself. Our testing showed that impact from running Shiro sits around a few percent or less, and has almost no impact on GPU usage.

  • Things like viewing ELO or looking up Maps have been moved into the client, no longer requiring a round trip to the website.

Maps are searchable in-lobby.

  • Also, you can view maps in 3D, without entering a game.

New Map Viewer.

  • Shiro will track match history and stats, and you can also view detailed stats for other players.

Profiles.

  • Skins, Plugins, Widget Management, custom in-game UI, and more is possible.

Add-ons manager.

  • 4 other experimental (and useful) side projects are available at launch.

App installer.

---

We will continue to post updates and such here, such as patch notes. For now, you can find recent releases in our github here. We will provide updated installers for both Windows and Linux for every major patch.

Also, feel free to add report issues or add feature requests here. We will do our best to keep up as things come in.

We are aware of filesystem scans on Recoil game load taking longer than anticipated. This is intended behaviour, but sometimes takes rather long, so we are working on a fix. Just be aware for now that if you download a ton of maps but never boot the game, Recoil will take time to index your filesystem the next time you load into a match.
