"balance" makes no sense because what army would realize their hardware is working too well and weaken it?

In warfare, the arms race causes one side to develop "OP" weaponry and enjoys it for some time until the other side develops a counter. Units should follow the same rules as commander upgrades and let the best configuration win.

Why wont the robots put superior hovercraft weapons on light vehicles?
Why not give thugs a heavy machine gun?
Why do they use weak nano builders on their air constructors?
Why doesnt the glaive try using the bandit's longer range weapon?
Why doesnt the warrior fire both weapons at once?
Who's idea was it to give the sharpshooter such slow locomotors?
Why not put the outlaw's weapon on a sumo? or a panther?
Why not a stilleto lightning gun for the black dawn?
Shouldnt the firewalker have jumpjets?
Why not give venoms jumpjets?
Why not surfboard jumpjets?
Stealth lichos?
Shielded pillagers?

The armys we control do not think of good ways to kill the enemy, they just follow some sort of strange religion. The Church of Balancing.

nano builder is very heavy. They can't fly with more powerful nano builder.

Weight issues perhaps?

Assuming it's a plasma machine gun it may create too much interference with shield technology

Maybe he likes a higher damage gun

Keep up saturation fire as the would doubtlessly overheat

Either A) the weapon would bounce around in the sumo like sound in a glass house or B) too heavy

As awesome as that would be it would drain too much power from the engines

Difficult to attach to articulated legs whilst still allowing it to control flight

>Why not surfboard jumpjets?
No point really, but generally firing thrusters into water is not as effective as ground.

Freaking awesome but the stealth tech would take away from armor or carrying capacity

Would make it power intensive which isn't desired for artillery

Sounds expensive and like it would break the wolverine's cannon through recoil.

As to the main argument, I think that designing our own units would just make things a mess as everyone has to deal with so many units that there will essentially be no clear cut counter system.

If you wish to make a game that includes the ability to customize unit stats with tradeoffs, by all means, go ahead.

I might even play it! (honestly, it does sound possible to play)

i would like also robots ehich can turn into planes. i would name them "insects". they are like spiders but can fly, but for this they need some energy(like cloak). also cool would be planes which can "fly" underwater like superspeed-subs.

i would help to program this if someone helps me with this.

Are you trying to mix Warzone 2100 and Spring/TA? In Warzone 2100 you can customize your units. It's also OS and quite nice btw: http://wz2100.net/

Dang. Someone beat me to the flea-nukes.

This is a game, not warfare. There are no resources but arbitrary ones. If the game wasn't "balanced" it would be boring as you'd only spam one [unit] and see who'd make more [unit] faster.

Upgrades for units would be cool, but Spring engine makes this difficult for general units.
